Benefits Specialist JobID: 1849 Job Details Position Type: Support Staff Date Posted: 9/5/2025 Location: Country Club Administrative Building Closing Date: Open until filled Purpose The primary responsibility of the Benefits Specialist is to manage all functions associated with the administration of the District’s health benefits program district-wide, including health insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, prescription, dental, vision, flexible spending account plans, open enrollment, and employee assistance program (EAP). The Benefits Specialist ensures compliance with Federal and State laws such as COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, NJFLA, and others. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) Three (3) years of experience in Health Care Benefits and Insurance Management Excellent organizational skills Enthusiastic, interpersonal, and collaborative personality Effective written and oral English communication skills with proper grammar and vocabulary Proficiency with electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications Integrity, good moral character, and initiative Responsibilities Manages the employee benefits program for all employees. Manages COBRA, FLMA, NJFLI, and Medicare processes. Prepares and verifies medical and other leave absences for monthly Board of Education meetings. Serves on the Negotiating Committee when required and prepares Benefits Census. Conducts retirement consultations and pension enrollment or transfers. Liaises between the District and the Office of Unemployment, insurance carriers, and brokers. Coordinates with Workers’ Compensation/Employee Health vendor to assess and resolve claims. Manages the annual open healthcare enrollment program. Conducts Unemployment Reviews. Uses computer and technology skills including G‑Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Communicates in written and oral English with students, parents, and colleagues. Completes records and reports required by law and the Director of Human Resources in a timely manner. Continues professional growth through collaboration and learning opportunities. Performs duties assigned by the Director of Human Resources. Physical Demands The role requires lifting, sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, and close vision. Employees must be able to use hands and fingers to handle objects, computers, and controls, and to communicate effectively in English. Reasonable accommodation may be provided where possible. Evaluation The Benefits Specialist shall be evaluated by the Director of Human Resources.
