Wire EDM Operator (1st Shift)

This role operates and maintains multiple wire EDM machines on a first-shift schedule, performing setups, running production, and troubleshooting issues to ensure high-quality output. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision measurement skills, and the ability to manage several machines in a clean, organized, and temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and oversee three wire EDM machines during the 1st shift (6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
• Perform complete machine setups for wire EDM operations, including loading programs and preparing materials and tooling.
• Run production parts on wire EDM machines while monitoring performance and quality throughout the process.
• Troubleshoot machine and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain consistent output.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications.
• Adjust machine settings and parameters as needed based on inspection results and process feedback.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established safety and quality procedures.
• Collaborate with team members across departments to support production flow and meet schedule requirements.
• Document production information as required, including job details, measurements, and any adjustments made.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on wire EDM experience.
• Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot wire EDM machines.
• Basic programming skills related to wire EDM operations.
• Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and gauges for precision measurement.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with mechanical systems and tooling.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple machines simultaneously.
• Reliability in maintaining a consistent 1st shift schedule (6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a precision manufacturing or machining environment.
• Familiarity with related processes such as grinding, brazing, CNC lathes, and mills.
• Comfort reading and interpreting technical information such as basic part measurements and setup instructions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and other departments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, well-lit, and temperature-controlled manufacturing facility. The operation includes six departments: EDM, Braze, Grind, a D-5 area with CNC lathes and mills, Shipping & Receiving, and a Wendt area with specialized Wendt machines. You will primarily work in the EDM department while interacting with adjacent areas as needed. The position follows a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with limited overtime. The environment emphasizes precision work, use of measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparta, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
