Whitewater University of California (WUC) – Part-Time Librarian Position Title: Part-Time Librarian (Librarian of Record) Location : Remote or Hybrid (San Jose, CA preferred) Position Type: Part-Time / Contract Hours: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, depending on student inquiries and institutional needs. The schedule is flexible. Any additional hours must be approved by the University in advance. Compensation: $70 per hour, based on actual hours worked and reported. Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) / President Position Summary Whitewater University of California seeks a qualified Part-Time Librarian to serve as the institution’s Librarian of Record. This is a limited-hours professional appointment designed to maintain accessible library support for students and faculty and to assist the University with required library documentation and accreditation-related activities.Student reference inquiries are currently infrequent. The librarian’s regular responsibilities are therefore expected to require approximately five hours per month, although limited additional availability may occasionally be needed for institutional reviews, accreditation activities, or special projects. Essential Responsibilities Serve as WUC’s Librarian of Record. Monitor the University’s “Ask a Librarian” service and respond to occasional student or faculty research questions within an agreed-upon timeframe. Assist users, as needed, with accessing electronic databases and online library resources. Periodically review library policies, procedures, resource guides, and operational documentation. Provide limited library orientation or resource training when requested. Maintain basic records of reference inquiries, training activities, and library resource usage. Provide reasonable availability for scheduled accreditation reviews, site visits, and related documentation requests. Recommend practical improvements to library resources and services when appropriate. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Library Science (MLS), Library and Information Science (MLIS), or equivalent from an accredited institution. Minimum of 2 years of professional library experience, preferably in a college, university, or academic library setting. Experience providing research/reference services and library instruction or user training. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities remotely with minimal supervision. Proficiency with online library databases, electronic resources, and common productivity software. Preferred Qualifications Experience serving as a Librarian of Record or supporting institutional accreditation. Familiarity with distance education and online learning environments. Knowledge of ACCSC, BPPE, ACAHM, CAB, or other higher education accreditation and regulatory requirements. Experience supporting health sciences, traditional Chinese medicine, or graduate-level academic programs. Compensation Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, and agreed-upon workload. This is a part-time contract position and does not include employee benefits.
