Position Summary The Senior Counselor provides comprehensive, short‑term, home‑based services to families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The Senior Counselor supports families in strengthening safety, stability, and functioning with the goal of preventing out‑of‑home placement. This role will provide training and supervision to advance your skills in engagement, assessment related to overall‑child well‑being, and intervention implementation. Senior Counselors provide psychoeducation, parenting support, case management, linkage to community resources, and assistance with crisis stabilization. They are key members of a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with DCF, schools, and community providers. Sign‑On Bonus $4,000 sign‑on bonus, half paid upon hire and half paid at one year of service. Bilingual Requirement Bilingual in Spanish and English. Bilingual stipend: annually $2,288. Hourly Rate $23.08 an hour. Education and Experience / Qualifications BA/BS degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling or related field is required. Previous experience working with a client population with mental health and/or co‑occurring substance use disorders. Effective time management, strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Valid driver’s license is required; safe vehicle operation as needed. Provide front‑line crisis support to individuals and/or families by phone, in‑home and/or community as needed. Make decisions based on interpretation of data presented and refine methods and techniques used. Provide group, individual and/or family counseling with appropriate supervision and coordinate treatment phases with internal and external service providers. Maintain records of counseling, coordination of care and case management activities for reporting and tracking. Demonstrate knowledge of basic psychopathology, crisis theory and other behavioral health concerns, and primary intervention modalities relevant to the target population (skill building, safety planning, parenting skills, high fidelity wraparound care). Provide service in office, community settings and outside of the office as defined by program. Provide safety planning and crisis intervention with supervision and on‑call coverage. Participate in development and facilitation of initial treatment plan, transition plan and timeline. Demonstrate knowledge of internal and external levels of care, referral processes and resources, and make clinically appropriate referrals. Meet direct service productivity goals and adhere to practice standards, data collection and reporting protocols. Identify potential risk factors and reduce risks in the home through supervision, reinforcement of positive and safe behaviors, trauma‑informed and relationally‑based therapeutic interventions. Attend scheduled supervision, team meetings, staff meetings or rounds to assist in coordinating case management. Communicate effectively with client, family and providers. Continue to develop knowledge and understanding of the history, traditions, values, family systems and artistic expression of groups served and use appropriate methodological approaches, skills and techniques reflecting cultural understanding.
