Employer: John Hancock Life Insurance Company (USA)Job Site: 197 Clarendon, Boston, MA 02116Job Title: Senior Financial AccountantJob Duties:Compile and analyze financial data from property-level and consolidated ledgers to produce accurate and timely investor-specific financial statements in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) / International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); and ensure all reporting aligns with fund structures such as Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and partnerships and meets internal and external standards. Duties include:Prepare and post recurring and ad-hoc journal entries including accruals, reclassifications, fee allocations, capital activates, and revaluation and investment income recognition; and conduct detailed reviews to ensure accuracy of postings and adherence to internal accounting policies and procedures;Reconcile key balance sheet accounts such as cash, working balance, receivables, payables, and investments, and investigate and resolve discrepancies;Performfund-level Net Asset Value (NAV)calculations incorporating valuation adjustment, net investment activity, income allocations, expense accruals, investor-level capital activity and return metrics such as Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Rate of Return (ROR); and ensuring accuracy and consistency with fund governing documents;Maintaininvestorcapitalaccounts including contributions, distributions, transfers, rebalancing, preferred return calculations, and allocation of income, expenses, and realized/unrealized gains and losses;Calculate management and performance-based fees in accordance with contractual agreements, prepare detailed fee schedules, process annual timber depletion calculations, and support internal performance reporting;Evaluate valuation inputs and fair value measurements under ASC 820, verify valuation adjustments, perform foreign currency translation for international investment, and ensure proper recording of unrealized gains/losses and investment-level activity;Monitor fund-level and property-level cash balances and prepare cash flow forecasts, analyze liquidity requirements, and recommend capital calls or distributions aligned with investment strategies and funding needs;Draft and issue capital call and distribution notices to investors, ensure accuracy of investor-level allocations, maintain proper documentation, prepare and submit invoices for assigned funds, and collaborate with custodians and internal treasury teams to execute timely cash movements;Prepare fund-level and investor-level financial reports including quarterly and annual financial statements, supplementary schedules, performance reporting, and analytics for senior management and investors;Generate ad-hoc financial reports and perform custom fund analyses to support new client onboarding, fund transition, and internal financial review projects;Provide audit support, perform variance analyses and REIT compliance testing, and respond to inquiries from auditors and tax consultants;Conduct research on complex accounting matters such as acquisitions, lease arrangements, and asset impairments, interpret and apply relevant US GAAP guidance and consult with internal stakeholders and external advisors;Document and adhere to internal quality control procedures for financial reporting including participating in walkthroughs, updating process documentation, and assisting with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards; andCollaborate with internal teams to respond to client and investor inquiries.Work Arrangement requirement: Hybrid from Boston office (3 days from office, 2 days from home)Salary: $120,058 per yearMinimum Requirements:Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field and 2 years of accounting or financial reporting experience for investment management, asset management, or corporate accounting involving cash management, capital transactions, or compliance testing for a multi-entity organization. In the alternate, employer will also accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field and 5 years of accounting or financial reporting experience for investment management, asset management, or corporate accounting involving cash management, capital transactions, or compliance testing for a multi-entity organization.Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:2 years of experience assisting with financial reporting processes for multi-entity organizations in accordance with US GAAP including consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and complex account structures. 2 years of experience performing full-cycle general ledger activities including preparing and posting accruals, reclassifications, and allocations, and reconciling key accounts. 2 years of experience analyzing detailed financial data, identifying and explaining variances, and preparing supporting schedules for internal management and external reporting purposes. 2 years of experience preparing audit deliverables including general ledger tie-outs and supporting schedules, and coordinating directly with auditors and/or tax advisors. 2 years of experience using Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, complex formulas, multi-source data analysis, and data validation for financial reporting and analysis. 2 years of experience using enterprise accounting and reporting systems including Microsoft Great Plains, Prophix, Esker, and Power BI for data extraction, report building, process improvements, or system upgrades. 2 years of experience applying US GAAP and IFRS frameworks including understanding key differences relevant to financial reporting.The role being advertised is an existing vacancy.About Manulife and John HancockManulife Financial Corporation is a leading international financial services provider, helping people make their decisions easier and lives better.
