Job Title: Purification Technician III – Day Shift Job Description

The Purification Technician III – Day Shift supports downstream biologics manufacturing operations in a cGMP-regulated environment. This role focuses on purification processes, including chromatography and filtration, and requires hands-on operation of manufacturing equipment, execution of batch activities, and meticulous GMP documentation. The technician ensures safe, compliant, and efficient commercial production while collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

• Execute purification manufacturing operations in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), standard operating procedures, and batch record requirements.
• Perform downstream processing activities such as chromatography, filtration, buffer preparation, equipment setup, and process monitoring.
• Conduct in-process sampling and testing, including pH and conductivity measurements and visual inspections, to ensure process control and product quality.
• Execute validation protocols following approved procedures and GMP requirements to support qualified and compliant manufacturing processes.
• Utilize manufacturing systems and process control platforms, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), to manage production activities.
• Perform takeouts, identity checks, material transactions, and production-related entries within electronic manufacturing systems.
• Execute cleaning and sanitization activities, including Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Steam-in-Place (SIP) processes, to maintain equipment and facility readiness.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely GMP documentation for all manufacturing operations and related activities.
• Support manufacturing investigations and deviation management by identifying issues, documenting observations, and contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, quality, and operational efficiency within the manufacturing area.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production operations and effective communication across functions.
• Participate in shift turnover activities, clearly communicating process status, issues, and priorities to incoming teams.
• Identify and document deviations and initiate maintenance work orders when necessary to address equipment or process concerns.
• Support production schedules and meet operational timelines in a fast-paced biologics manufacturing environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall manufacturing objectives.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills to document activities and interact effectively with team members.
• Knowledge of cGMP regulations and safety requirements applicable to biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional groups.
• Strong time management skills and attention to detail to execute complex manufacturing processes accurately.
• Ability to identify and document deviations and initiate maintenance work orders when necessary.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and solve problems in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to support production schedules in a fast-paced biologics manufacturing facility.
• Hands-on experience with purification, chromatography, and filtration processes in a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort using manufacturing systems and process control platforms such as DCS and MES.
• Capability to perform cleaning and sanitization activities, including CIP and SIP processes.

• High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment; OR Associate degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of cGMP manufacturing experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; OR equivalent military training or experience.
• Experience supporting purification, chromatography, filtration, recovery, or other downstream manufacturing operations.
• Experience working within a GMP-regulated biologics, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with automated manufacturing control systems and electronic batch records.
• Experience operating AKTA systems, chromatography skids, tangential flow filtration (TFF) systems, depth filtration equipment, or other downstream processing equipment.
• BioWork certification.
• Ability to stand for extended periods while performing manufacturing tasks.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks using hands, wrists, and fingers for equipment operation and documentation.
• Ability to bend, push, pull, reach, and lift materials up to 33 pounds as part of routine manufacturing activities.
• Ability to ascend and descend ladders and access manufacturing equipment safely.
• Ability to work in manufacturing environments requiring personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary.
• Ability to work in temperature-variable manufacturing environments.

This position is based in an onsite biologics manufacturing facility operating under cGMP regulations. The role is assigned to the day shift on a 2-2-3 rotation schedule, supporting commercial downstream purification operations. The environment includes regular use of purification equipment such as chromatography systems, filtration units, and automated manufacturing control platforms including DCS and MES. Work is performed in production areas that may have variable temperatures and require the use of personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when needed. The role involves standing for extended periods, performing repetitive manual tasks, lifting materials up to 33 pounds, and accessing equipment via ladders. The facility emphasizes safety, quality, and teamwork, with structured shift turnover practices and a focus on continuous improvement to maintain efficient and compliant operations.

This is a Contract position based out of Morrisville, NC.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
