Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Professor and State Extension Specialist

Job Description The Division of Plant Science and Technology (DPST) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) at the University of Missouri (MU) seeks an Assistant/Associate/Full Research Professor and State Extension Specialist focused on rice agronomy. The 12‑month non‑tenure‑track faculty position consists of a 60% research and 40% extension appointment, located at MU Fisher Delta Research, Extension and Education Center in Portageville, MO. Responsibilities Conduct applied agronomic research to improve sustainable rice production in southeast Missouri, including rice variety trials and management in rotation with other crops. Lead development and application of innovative tools and practices for effective management of water, fertilizer, and other inputs. Design, plan, and conduct field experiments, collecting data and performing statistical analyses with input from producers to target regionally relevant research projects. Secure extramural funding and publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals, extension presentations, and other relevant outlets. Collaborate with the Missouri Rice Research and Merchandising Council (MRRMC), public and private researchers, farmers, and extension specialists in Missouri and other states. Provide timely assistance and advice to rice producers on production practices. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, agricultural engineering, or a related field by the time of appointment. Candidates will be evaluated on: Proficiency in rice production practices, including weed, disease, pest, fertility, tillage, and irrigation management. Excellent oral communication skills for engaging with farmers and stakeholders. Experience in precision agriculture or related digital technology. Ability to secure extramural funding and maintain plot and farm‑scale equipment. Proven data analysis, grant proposal, scientific publication, and extension publication experience.
