Job Title Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Location Sentara CarePlex Hospital (Hampton, VA) Position Type Full-time/Part-time (varies) Job Overview This Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse position at Sentara CarePlex Hospital involves managing high‑acuity patients requiring close monitoring, bridging the gap between ICU and med‑surg. Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, medication administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration for post‑surgical or cardiac patients. Required qualifications typically include an RN license, BLS/ACLS certification, and 1–2 years of acute care experience. The PCU RN delivers specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions or those recovering from acute surgical procedures. Responsibilities include continuous telemetry monitoring, performing advanced assessments, titrating drug doses, and implementing care plans in a fast‑paced, high‑turnover environment. Key Responsibilities Patient Monitoring: Interpret cardiac rhythms and monitor vital signs to recognize and respond to patient deterioration. Clinical Care: Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments, including post‑surgical wound care and device management (catheters/drains). Collaboration: Work with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the team to develop and implement care plans. Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Education: Provide comprehensive care education to patients and families. Required Qualifications Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state. Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of acute care experience (e.g., PCU, ICU, Step‑down). Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association. Skills: Proficiency in ECG interpretation, strong clinical assessment skills, and ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
