IRT Instructional Materials Student Internship IRT Instructional Materials Student Internship Position Description Department: Information Resources & Technology (IRT), Academic Technology Services (ATS) Conditions of Internship: Part-time; paid for on an hourly basis Position Start & End Date: 8-17-2026. Information Resources & Technology (IRT) partners with faculty, staff, and students to provide essential information technology services that support mission-critical activities and innovative technology solutions that advance Sacramento State's strategic goals. What Is The IRT Instructional Materials Student Internship? The Instructional Materials Student Intern works under the supervision of the Accessible Technology Coordinator and with oversight by the Director of Academic Technology in the ATS (Academic Technology Services ) Unit. The ATS unit is part of the Information Resources & Technology Division at Sac State. In this position, the Instructional Materials Student Intern will be assigned to work on various instructional materials remediation projects throughout the semester. Instructional Materials Accessibility Instructional materials are accessible if they have been designed and formatted to be used effectively by all students including students with disabilities who may use assistive technologies to access content. Content must meet specific technical requirements to be considered accessible. Instructional materials may include Documents: PDFs, Word files, PowerPoint Presentations, Canvas Course Content (Pages, Files Uploaded to a course), Websites, and Video and Audio. About the Instructional Materials Remediation Team and Services The Instructional Materials Remediation Service supports faculty in retrofitting or “remediating” instructional materials so that they are accessible to post online for their students. This service is provided through the Academic Technology Services Unit of IRT We are a team of staff and student assistants trained in the areas of document remediation. We use best practices for document accessibility (aligned to WCAG 2.1 guidelines) to identify accessibility issues. We use built-in Accessibility Checkers in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Canvas (UDOIT Course Accessibility Check and Canvas Accessibility Checker) to review content and fix issues. We use Third Party plugins (e.g., CommonLook PDF, PAC) for more complex remediation usually involving PDFs. The Student Intern will review and adhere to accessibility remediation best practices in various applications including Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Canvas, and other applications as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Training is provided in each of the areas listed below: Remediate instructional materials including PDF documents, Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations and Canvas content created in Rich Content Editor areas. Use various accessibility tools such as UDOIT, CommonLook PDF and built in Accessibility Checkers, to review accessibility information and make final materials review. Assist with video captioning requests using established procedures and accounts. Use Microsoft Teams to check for assigned tasks and document completed tasks. Use ServiceNow ticketing system to keep track of assigned tasks, mark progress and use built-in email tools to communicate with patrons about requests and progress/completion. Assist ATS Staff with other tasks as needed. Adhere to accessibility guidelines and best practices and recommendations. Participate in training to stay current on accessibility and remediation procedures and recommendations. Report any issues or questions to their immediate supervisor and/or other appropriate staff. Minimum Qualifications Must be currently enrolled as an Undergraduate or Graduate Student in good disciplinary standing with the University when appointed and for the duration of the employment period. Must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and for each semester while employed) Must have excellent customer service skills. Experience with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, Word) Ability to work in a diverse environment with university Faculty and Staff. Ability to complete tasks while providing excellent customer service. Self-motivated and able to work independently with nominal supervision. Excellent communication and organizational skills Knowledge or experience with video editing, software, or services Beneficial Qualifications Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing. Experience using Microsoft Office applications. Experience using Adobe Acrobat Professional. Familiarity with Canvas. Experience using Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Knowledge of multiple computer operating systems. Interest in accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), or instructional technology. Experience using ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems. Typical Working Conditions Student Interns work Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Schedules are based on departmental needs and student availability. This position requires on-campus work in a designated office. Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interaction with the campus community. Other Duties as Assigned Student Interns may assist with additional Academic Technology Services initiatives as assigned. Note Interviews will take place via Zoom or in person.
