Step into a pivotal role as a School Social Worker, collaborating with education professionals to make a difference for students in the New Orleans area. This contract opportunity offers full-time hours (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, following the school calendar) and begins as soon as possible, concluding at the end of May 2027.

In this specialized position within the Pupil Appraisal Department, your primary responsibilities will center around evaluation and eligibility assessment for special education services. Rather than traditional direct student counseling, you will focus on comprehensive pupil appraisals—including initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and testing. You’ll work closely with a dedicated team of school psychologists and educational diagnosticians, attending Academic Behavior Intervention Team (ABIT/SBLC) meetings, monitoring interventions, and coordinating multi-disciplinary evaluations. Expect an itinerant schedule visiting 2-3 schools, supporting a diverse caseload across age groups as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Current Louisiana Department of Education certification and an active professional social work license
• Previous experience in school settings or pupil appraisal is highly desired
• Familiarity with special education assessment procedures and intervention monitoring
• Ability to collaborate effectively with intervention teams and adapt quickly to different school environments
• Willingness to complete necessary fingerprinting, background check, and drug screen per district requirements
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
