Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: The School-based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) implements behavior reduction and skill acquisition treatment plans per the students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student on their caseload under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The RBT provides individualized behavioral services in a 1:1 or small group teaching format to children with autism and/or other disabilities and/or behavioral challenges.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist teachers and/or clinicians in the implementation of students' IEP behavioral goals by facilitating the direct instruction of behavior-based programming, preparing documents and technology, and collecting/recording data in identified areas, such as frequency counts, duration counts, and intensity ratings for student success to maximize the attainment of behavioral skills for the assigned student(s)
- Provide agency-trained crisis intervention services to students to increase engagement, build social skills, reduce behavioral incidences, and improve social and emotional development by responding to classroom needs and implementing crisis management techniques as indicated by student behavior to ensure appropriate de-escalation techniques are being used and student safety is maintained
- Obtain and maintain trainer credentials for safety and crisis management programs adopted by the Davidson School by participating in scheduled trainings and passing all required competencies at 100% to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management) and ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all
- Train staff to proficiency in safety and crisis management programs adopted by the Davidson School to address safety and behavioral challenges (e.g., Safety Care Behavioral Crisis Prevention and Management) by demonstrating, coaching, and observing program methods to ensure that staff can manage crisis situations in a safe and consistent manner with minimal need for physical interventions/restraints
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings for students who exhibit behavioral challenges by attending scheduled meetings, providing input, and sharing data, including but not limited to behavioral frequency, intensity, and duration data to provide a collaborative approach to improving behavior by reviewing behavior support plans, fidelity to intervention strategies, and discussing the implementation of the specially designed instruction (SDI), etc.
- Review and lead Behavioral Incident Report (BIR) debriefings by attending reviews as scheduled for a behavioral event, leading the meetings, and discussing future approaches to similar behaviors to ensure that all staff are aware of students' behavioral tendencies and appropriate proactive strategies for behavioral management
- Coach Davidson School and agency staff on implementation of approved crisis management techniques by engaging in regular observations, drills, and fidelity checks to ensure that techniques are being used appropriately and safely
- Plan and execute approved crisis management program refreshers with staff as needed in collaboration with the professional development team and administrative staff by conducting trainings and reviews to ensure that all staff are trained on all needed techniques in a consistent and standardized way
- Respond to behavioral incidents by answering radio calls or requests for assistance in a timely manner to help facilitate the use of approved crisis management techniques to avoid further escalation of behavior and/or extinguish dangerous behaviors
- Contribute to the IEP team meetings when requested by providing behavioral incident data, intervention data, and general input for student behavior to ensure that student IEPs are accurate and representative of student's current behavioral needs and goals
- Observe and address behavioral goals and objectives of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor assigned students during outdoor and outside the classroom activities, and report progress regarding student behaviors to the assigned BCBA by remaining with students as assigned, collecting and reporting data, and maintaining line of sight supervision of students during assigned activities to foster the safest and most effective environment for student success
- Demonstrate knowledge of child development, autism, developmental disabilities and learning styles by differentiating assignments and tasks to the appropriate developmental level of the assigned students to ensure comprehensive and effective skill development
- Escort to/from and supervise assigned students in educational areas, lunch, bus/activities, playgrounds, bathrooms, enrichment, transitional, clinical areas, and other assigned areas by walking with individuals or groups of students, maintaining sight supervision of students and student groups, and by ensuring that students are received by staff before discontinuing supervision to promote and maintain the safest and most secure environment for students
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe educational environment for students by following established health and safety guidelines, regularly assisting in classroom cleanup, reporting safety issues, and reporting common areas in need of attention to the school operations manager to promote and maintain a healthy working environment
- Assist in evacuating students during fire drills, emergencies, and any potential unusual circumstances by escorting and remaining with students during the event, following the direction of building leaders, and by maintaining supervision of assigned students to ensure the best possible level of drill and emergency response
- Input and access information via technology as requested by teachers and clinicians by checking and responding to emails on a daily basis, entering data for progress monitoring, and reporting on student behavior data trends including, but not limited to, frequency, location, duration, and antecedent events, to facilitate a common and consistent approach to the students behavioral education and development
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols by engaging in approved practices for CPR and crisis management to ensure the safest possible response to crisis situations and to 100% competency
- Maintains a safe campus environment by following all requested policies and procedures including, but not limited to, signing in and out in available program systems and securing all entry/exit doors as appropriate after use to provide the safest possible environment for students and staff
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or graduate equivalency diploma (GED); undergraduate degree in behavioral health, psychology, special education, or related field preferred
- Three (3) years' experience in designing, supporting and implementing interventions and crisis response services based in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) while working with school-age students with special education students with behavioral, emotional or developmental disabilities
- Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
- Current staff with minimum education and experience qualifications may apply for this position and, if selected, will be provisionally reserved for a period not to exceed four (4) months for one of these openings for formal placement upon attaining certification as a Registered Behavior Technician

- Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated experience with classroom assistive technology
- Knowledge of electronic record systems preferred
