Registered Nurse - Float

$51 - $62 per hour

Registered Nurse – Float Job Description The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary care plan, ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan. The patient care process comprises: Assessment – identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data. Planning – identification of problems, setting goals, and documenting a plan of care. Intervention – implementation of specific interventions consistent with the plan. Evaluation – determination of intervention effectiveness and documentation of required actions. Additional responsibilities include performing limited laboratory services such as specimen collection, quality control testing and reporting of critical values, as well as maintaining competency and certification for these tasks. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current RN licensure in the State of New Jersey or a current multisate license. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Valid New Jersey Driver's License. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training provided. Emergency Room: 2–4 years medical/surgical experience, 2 years emergency room experience, ACLS required within 6 months. Various specialty certifications (ATCN, TNCC, PALS, ENPC, etc.) required or preferred as listed per specialty. (For brevity, detailed specialty requirements are provided in the complete posting.) Specialty Experience & Certification Emergency Room (City): 2–4 years medical/surgical & ER experience; ACLS required within 6 months; ATCN/TNCC completion after 24 months; 8 contact hours per year for trauma and stroke assessment. Labor and Delivery: 2–4 years experience; ACLS required within 6 months; NRP required within 1 year. Neonatal ICU & Intermediate Care, Mother/Baby Unit: 2–4 years experience; NRP required within 1 year. Perinatology: 3 years labor & delivery experience; OB certification required. Operating Room: 1–2 years medical/surgical experience; CNOR preferred; ACLS preferred. Critical Care (ICU): 2–4 years experience; ACLS required within 1 year; CCRN preferred. Medical/Surgical (various sites): 1–2 years experience; ACLS required within 6 months. Dialysis: 1–2 years experience; ACLS required within 1 year. Psychiatry: 1–2 years experience; QPRT education required within 6 months. Pediatrics: 1–2 years experience; PALS required within 1 year. Radiology, Cath Lab, Trauma ICU, Oncology, Endoscopy, Cardiac Diagnostic, CVU, PCCU, PCU, Telemetry, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology Infusion, PACU/SDS, Pre-Admission Testing, Acute Partial/Child, Bloodless Surgery, Wound Care Outpatient, Structural Heart: 2–4 years or 1–3 years experience respectively with specified certifications (ACLS, PALS, ATCN, etc.). Performance Expectations Demonstrates the ability to perform department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards including blood‑borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Extensive reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, stair climbing. Lifting 25–50 lbs frequently; 50–100 lbs occasionally with assistance. Pushing and pulling heavy equipment. Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors. Specific to the Electrophysiology Lab: additional duties involving stretching, transportation of patients on stretchers, instrument handling, and maneuvering in small work areas. Unit Populations Served Core competencies are assessed based on the following patient populations: Bariatric, Morbid obese adults with cardiac, metabolic, renal, pulmonary comorbidities. Cath Lab patients with cardiac/vascular conditions. Critical Care: acute medical/surgical care including AMI, CAD, PVD, COPD, CHF, shock. Behavioral Health: bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, psychosis. Dialysis: acute or chronic renal failure. Endoscopy: chronic pain management, GI, pulmonary, cardiovascular procedures. Emergency Department: triage and treatment across all systems. Intermediate Care, Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Oncology, Wound Care, Structural Heart, etc. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the patient care unit or department leadership.
