Accounting Manager

Key Responsibilities - Accounting Operations (A/P, A/R & Bookkeeping) Own all day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable across the retail locations and the corporate entity — invoice processing, vendor payments, billing, collections, and cash application. Maintain accurate, timely bookkeeping and a clean general ledger, ensuring transactions are coded and recorded correctly across entities and locations. Manage vendor and customer relationships on all financial matters, resolving discrepancies quickly and keeping aging under control. Oversee expense management, corporate card programs, and employee reimbursements with appropriate documentation and controls. Month-End Close & Reconciliations Own the monthly close process end to end, delivering a complete, accurate close on a predictable, tight timeline. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations — cash, bank, intercompany, prepaids, accruals, and fixed assets — and investigate and resolve variances. Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in line with company policy, and maintain well-organized supporting workpapers. Partner with FP&A to ensure P&L accuracy, accrual alignment, and month-end readiness so reporting and analysis rest on reliable numbers. Process Improvement & Automation Identify and lead process improvements across the accounting cycle — standardizing, documenting, and streamlining A/P, A/R, and close workflows as the business scales. Leverage AI/LLM tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent) to automate reconciliations, transaction coding, documentation, and routine reporting. Optimize the use of Sage X3 for accounting operations, and connect data across fragmented systems (POS platforms, Excel/Google Sheets) into reliable, repeatable processes. Establish and enforce internal controls, close checklists, and data-quality standards that scale with a growing multi-location footprint. Lead, mentor, and develop a team across A/P, A/R, and general accounting — setting clear priorities, standards, and accountability. Build the bench: coach the team, raise the quality bar, and create the structure and cross-training that let the function keep pace with growth. Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement — including comfort adopting new tools and AI-assisted ways of working. Cross-Functional Partnership Work directly with the CFO on the integrity of the books, cash reporting, audit readiness, and special projects. Partner with FP&A, Treasury and store operations leadership to ensure accurate, timely financial information across the business. Support external audit, tax, and lender/investor reporting requests with clean, well-documented records. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of full-cycle A/P, A/R, reconciliations, and month-end close; multi-unit retail, restaurant, or service operations strongly preferred. Direct people-management experience, with a track record of leading and developing accounting teams. Hands-on experience with ERP systems; understanding of Sage X3 and Renovo as our report writer strongly preferred. Demonstrated success driving process improvements and building scalable accounting workflows and controls. Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, and comfort working with fragmented, imperfect data across multiple source systems. Comfort using AI/LLM tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent) to accelerate accounting work, documentation, and reporting. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work cleanly and reliably in a fast-paced, lean environment. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Preferred Ambition to grow into a broader finance leadership role spanning both Accounting and FP&A. Experience building accounting infrastructure from scratch in a scaling or PE-backed business. Familiarity with retail car wash, detail shops, storage, laundry, or similar asset-intensive, high-location-count retail operations. Understanding of Python or other tools for finance automation and scripting. What Success Looks Like In 90 days: You have taken full ownership of A/P, A/R, and bookkeeping, learned our systems and data landscape, and delivered your first clean, on-time monthly close. In 6 months: You have tightened and automated the close, standardized reconciliations and controls, cut manual effort meaningfully, and built a team that runs day-to-day accounting with confidence. In 12 months: You are a trusted partner to the CFO, your function is a source of reliable numbers for the whole business, and you have begun broadening into reporting and FP&A — visibly on track toward a VP of Finance role.
