Senior Accountant

We’re partnering with a mission-driven organization in NYC looking to add a Senior Accountant to their team. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys owning the close process, working with fund accounting, and being part of a collaborative, purpose-driven environment. What you’ll be doing: This position will be heavily involved in the day-to-day accounting operations, supporting the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting while playing a key role in revenue and fund accounting. Lead key components of the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Maintain the general ledger and ensure all activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analyses for leadership review Oversee contribution and revenue recognition, including both restricted and unrestricted funding Apply nonprofit accounting guidance (including ASC 958) to ensure proper treatment of grants, donations, and earned revenue Track restricted funds and manage the release of restrictions in alignment with donor requirements Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate recording of contributions and program revenue Support audit processes and assist with preparation for external reporting, including Form 990 Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve accounting workflows What they’re looking for: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 4–6+ years of accounting experience, including exposure to nonprofit environments Strong understanding of GAAP, with hands‑on experience applying ASC 958 Experience with month‑end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting Background in grant accounting and fund accounting is a strong plus Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.) Detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced setting Collaborative mindset with an interest in improving processes Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled.
