Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Surgical Registered Nurse (RN), you will be a pivotal healthcare professional, delivering compassionate, high-quality care that truly impacts our patients' well‑being and recovery. Safety: Maintains current knowledge of all patient safety standards and National Patient Safety goals and consistently incorporates into nursing practice. Able to safely administer medications and blood/blood products using the 7 rights of medication and blood administration. Uses 2 separate hospital approved identifiers to safely identify the patient prior to medication/blood administration. Maintain a safe, therapeutic work environment at all times and identify and address problems to the appropriate departments. Adheres to principles of infection control, including medical and surgical asepsis and isolation techniques. Demonstrates aseptic technique while conducting sterile dressing changes, urinary catheterizations, and other similar duties. Receive, interpret and implement physician orders in a safe and timely manner. Uses hospital approved process for telephone and/or verbal orders that include a readback of all orders. Job Requirements Required High School Graduate or GED (upon hire) to obtain required licensure. Registered Nurse: CA license (upon hire). 1 year of operating room/surgical experience; training may be considered if operational conditions permit. Basic Life Support – CPR, American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association (AHA). Preferred Bachelor’s degree or other upon hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support upon hire. Memorial Hospital is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and hosts the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House.
