Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Bring your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter to empower students in an engaging educational setting. Collaborate with dedicated teams in well-resourced schools near Arlington Heights, IL, supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing as they thrive both academically and socially.
This contract opportunity offers two possible assignments for the 2026-2027 school year:
High School Assignment:
- Setting: 9th–12th grade, caseload of 12 students, typically interpreting for 1–3 students per class
- Schedule: August 10, 2026 – May 20, 2027, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–3:30pm
- Location: High school setting in a supportive educational community
Elementary/Middle School Assignment:
- Setting: Kindergarten–8th grade, caseload of 30 students, typically interpreting for 1–5 students per class
- Schedule: August 17, 2026 – May 28, 2027, Monday–Friday, 8:15am–3:45pm
- Location: Elementary/Middle school with an inclusive, collaborative atmosphere
What We Seek:
- Demonstrated experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting
- EIPA score of 3.5 or above (please provide verification—no exceptions)
- Adaptability for various communication and classroom needs
- Professionalism and teamwork with special and general education staff
- Passion for supporting student growth and communication
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate meaningful participation for students in both academic and social settings
- Collaborate with educators and related service providers to help every student succeed
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in all student interactions
