Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Embrace an impactful opportunity working as a Sign Language Interpreter within a dynamic school environment near Palatine, IL. We are seeking three contract professionals to join a collaborative team, providing essential support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for the 2026-2027 school year. Assignments are available for high school (9th-12th grade) and elementary through middle school (K-8th grade) settings, allowing you to choose the age group that best fits your passion and expertise.
There are two position tracks:
- High School: Serve at an accredited high school from August 10, 2026, through May 20, 2027, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–3:30 pm (35 hours/week). Caseload features 12 high school students with interpreting groups of 1-3 students per class.
- Elementary – Middle School: Work at a noted center for grades K-8 from August 17, 2026, through May 28, 2027, Monday to Friday, 8:15 am–3:45 pm (35 hours/week). Caseload comprises 30 students, with 1-5 students per interpreting session.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher required (documented proof necessary)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Familiarity with age-specific communication strategies and IEP processes
- Strong sense of professionalism and reliability for onsite-only roles
- Ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, accurate sign language interpretation for students in classroom, small group, and individual contexts
- Facilitate effective communication between students, educators, and peers
- Adapt language level and modality to students’ needs and developmental stage
- Support classroom engagement and foster an inclusive learning environment
