About the team

For this Academic Supports Manager position, you'll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th–12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. 95% of The Class of 2026 received acceptances into 52 unique colleges and universities and earned nearly $7M in scholarship award offers. What you'll do

Reporting to the Director of Academic Supports, you’ll be a key driver of school culture, student engagement, and academic success. You'll lead academic intervention systems, culture supports, and manage our 21st Century After-School Program. You’re a true go-getter, energized by building systems and being a steady, trusted presence for students and families.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the 21st Century After-School Program, collaborating with out-of-school time staff to maintain consistent expectations and smooth transitions for students
• Create and implement school-wide culture systems that promote safety, consistency, equity, and community
• Support staff in proactive behavior management and restorative practices
• Serve as a primary point of contact for high-level student behavior concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions
• Partner with the student support team and teachers to implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions
• Support students who are struggling academically or behaviorally, including developing and implementing behavior plans and proactive strategies to set them up for success
• Serve as a point of contact for families regarding student support needs
• Manage and run the after-school program (3:15–5:00 PM), ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; background in education, counseling, social work, or a related field strongly preferred
• 3+ years of experience working in urban schools or youth-serving organizations, with a track record of building positive student culture
• Deep understanding of restorative justice, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive behavior systems
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple systems and priorities in a fast-paced school environment

Pay and benefits

The annual salary range for this role is $50,000-$65,000 based on experience and qualifications. We offer a competitive salary and a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and additional benefits. Delaware employees are enrolled in Delaware's state pension plan and may also elect to participate in the state's 403(b) retirement plan.
