With a student body of approximately 650 full‑ and part‑time law students, the College is recognized for its value and renowned for its excellent bar passage and post‑graduate employment rates. The College fosters a commitment to diversity, innovation, and experiential learning. Faculty members publish in leading law reviews and peer‑reviewed journals, author books and book chapters, and appear in national and international news outlets. Scholarship is supported through research assistance, summer stipends, travel support, and awards. The College offers innovative programs in constitutional law, health law, access to justice, legal analytics, metropolitan and urban growth, and sports and entertainment law. Position Description Georgia State University College of Law invites candidates to apply for a tenured or tenure‑track professor position in constitutional law and join the Emmet J. Bondurant Center for Constitutional Law, Practice, and Democracy. The college seeks both entry‑level and mid‑career candidates who have established academic reputations in constitutional law. A particular interest in voting rights, election law, and/or the law of democracy is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will begin no later than the 2027‑2028 academic year and will be expected to teach in the constitutional law curriculum, make meaningful scholarly contributions, and participate actively in the life of Georgia State Law and the Bondurant Center. The successful candidate will also advise students, helping them develop professional identity and prepare for impactful careers. The Bondurant Center Mission and Goals Academic Leadership in Constitutional Law : To establish the Center as a premier institution for the study of constitutional law, bringing together leading scholars to engage with emerging legal and democratic challenges. Practical Engagement and Litigation : To integrate academic scholarship with practical legal work, supporting amicus briefs, engaging with judicial bodies, and advancing policy discussions around constitutional law. Education and Experiential Learning : To provide law students with hands‑on experience in constitutional law and democratic governance through fellowships, clinics, and collaborative research projects. Public Engagement : To serve as a nonpartisan, accessible voice in the broader public discourse on constitutional issues, providing a forum for community dialogue and educational outreach on critical legal topics. Qualifications Required Experience Assistant Professor : Substantial original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate will develop a body of work that attains national recognition and supports a successful application for tenure. Additional qualifications include visiting assistant professor positions or academic fellowships, clerkships, successful legal practice, and/or strong law school performance, including membership on academic journals. Associate Professor with Tenure : Substantial original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate has developed a nationally recognized body of work and has obtained, or is close to obtaining, support for a successful tenure application. Additional qualifications include associate professor positions, strong performance in law school, and membership in academic journals. Full Professor with Tenure : Well‑established original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate has developed a substantial body of work that is nationally recognized and has obtained tenure. Additional qualifications include professor positions, strong law school performance, and membership in academic journals. Required Education All applicants for any rank must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.), Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.), Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.), LL.M. (Master of Laws), or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited law school (or foreign equivalent). Preferred Qualifications/Experience Extensive experience in voting rights, election law, or the law of democracy is preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to teach constitutional law across in‑person, online, and blended modalities. Strong scholarly record and potential for national recognition. Effective studentship and community engagement. Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations None required. Pre‑Employment Requirements Criminal background check is required. Work Hours Law academic 9‑month appointment. Standard work hours to support required workload of 34% teaching, 33% research, and 33% service. Faculty may be required to work non‑standard hours, including day, evening, online, blended/hybrid, and weekends as determined by the Dean. Salary Commensurate with rank at appointment.
