Design Project Manager

Provide leadership to the project team upon award of a contract, including managing all aspects of a project’s design with owners, engineers, and architects as required. This role requires financial and risk‑management reporting to internal management and the business acumen to protect Southland Engineering’s interests while maintaining positive client relationships. Client and Contract Develop and maintain continuous positive relationships with internal and external clients and their representatives. Maintain a thorough understanding of the owner contract and client Master Service Agreements. Be accountable for managing the overall execution of the contract. Closely monitor scope changes and communicate the impact of changes (costs, schedule) to client in a timely manner. Project Execution Lead the project team upon award of a contract. Ensure all applicable corporate procedures and tools are followed or used on the project. Create the project‑specific execution plan, communicating the content with the team, and update it as project conditions and requirements change. Clearly understand and communicate the baseline scope of work to the project team, keeping them updated with approved change orders. Own, manage, update, and communicate the project design schedule, ensuring adequate time for QA and client review cycles. Identify and escalates potential project risks to the Managing Principal. Project Controls Work with Project Accounting to ensure budgets, forecasts, billings, and accounts receivable are updated in COINS. Prepare required project status documents and lead discussion during monthly review meetings covering financial forecasts, revenue and margin projections, staffing projections, client relationship status, and overall project status. Qualifications B.S. in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management with 4‑5 years of relevant experience. Excellent knowledge of project controls including but not limited to: Effectively monitoring the change‑management process. Developing engineering fee cost estimates with input from respective discipline leadership. Developing, monitoring, and managing accurate project forecasts (manpower and cost). Developing, monitoring, and managing project design schedules. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management. Ability to communicate effectively with general contractors/clients while exhibiting company core values. Ability to read and fully understand construction documents of all trades. Competent in general business writing and public speaking. Competent in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office products (specifically Word, Excel, etc.). Strong knowledge of the engineering industry. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Lean Project Delivery methods preferred.
