Associate Director of Development The W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University is one of the largest business schools in the United States with over 25,000 students pursuing undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degrees. The associate director of development works collaboratively with the ASU Foundation for a New American University (ASUF), academic leadership, and external partners to support the school’s fundraising priorities. The position serves as the fundraising liaison with the NASPO Department of Supply Chain Management and plays a key role in leading the business school’s $100 million Supply Chain Futures initiative, a vital fundraising priority within ASU’s Changing Future’s Campaign. Success is measured by the ability to achieve financial goals and contact metrics for the assigned prospects. The associate director reports to the director of development for the W. P. Carey School of Business. What You'll Do Develop and execute strategic fundraising and engagement efforts, designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining development activities to drive donor retention, reactivation, acquisition, and pipeline growth. Engage donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students to build and manage a major‑gift portfolio, focusing on securing gifts of $50,000 or more. Collaborate with the development team, unit leaders, and academic leaders to implement special fundraising opportunities and identify, cultivate, and solicit annual, major, and planned gifts. Leverage faculty, institute/center directors, and unit‑based and foundation‑based fundraisers to maximize philanthropic potential. Write proposals, budgets, and collateral materials to secure significant ($50,000+) philanthropic investments. Coordinate efforts across ASU offices (annual giving, corporate relations, estate planning, etc.) to advance prospect and donor strategies. Manage a personal major‑gift portfolio using the ASUF prospect‑management system (Salesforce) to record and coordinate contacts and proposals. Track core fundraising metrics, including face‑to‑face visits, prospect identification, cumulative giving growth, proposal submissions, and dollars raised. Ensure proper stewardship and recognition of donors in the portfolio. Serve as a resource to development colleagues regarding opportunities. Maintain strong working relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty members of assigned units. Research and analytical skills to gather data, prepare reports, and support development objectives. Database management skills. Judgment, ethical awareness, and discretion in donor interactions. Team‑work skills and the ability to cultivate effective relationships. Community‑relations skills and communication within a diverse community. Knowledge of fundraising techniques and tools (proposal development, prospect identification, database management, donor tracking, social media). Strong verbal and written communication; presentation skills. Confidentiality and integrity of foundation and university business information. Cultural awareness and ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds. Advocacy for ASU’s vision as the New American University. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor‑database systems. Relevant Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or current enrollment). Four to six years of professional development/fundraising experience. Successful track record of securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Organizational skills and event‑management experience.
