Overview of project/skills required:

We are seeking a highly skilled SharePoint Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support assessment, optimization, governance, security, and operational support initiatives within a Microsoft 365 environment.

This individual will lead SharePoint remediation and Copilot readiness efforts while partnering with cybersecurity teams on Microsoft Purview and data protection initiatives.

SharePoint expertise is the top priority for this role. The ideal candidate will also possess strong Microsoft Purview, information governance, and data protection experience.

Ideal Candidate: 70-80% SharePoint SME and 20-30% Purview / Data Protection Specialist

Key Responsibilities

Assess, optimize, and remediate SharePoint Online environments.

Support Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness initiatives, including permissions reviews, oversharing prevention, and content governance.

Configure and support SharePoint security, access controls, site governance, and retention strategies.

Partner with cybersecurity teams on Microsoft Purview-related initiatives.

Implement and support data classification, sensitivity labeling, retention policies, and data protection controls.

Provide Tier 2/3 SharePoint administration, troubleshooting, and operational support.

Document findings, remediation activities, risks, and recommendations.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of SharePoint Online administration and engineering experience.

Strong SharePoint governance, architecture, permissions, and security experience.

Hands-on Microsoft Purview experience.

Experience with:

• Sensitivity Labels
• Data Classification
• Retention Policies
• Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
• Information Protection

Experience supporting Microsoft 365 security and compliance initiatives.

Strong troubleshooting and stakeholder communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Copilot for M365
• Knowledge of Data Access Governance Reporting within SharePoint Advanced Management
• Microsoft 365 G5 experience.
• Microsoft certifications in SharePoint, Purview, Security, or Microsoft 365.
• Experience supporting Copilot readiness and governance initiatives.
• Public sector or highly regulated industry experience.

• Site Cleanup & Remediation
• Search & Content Management
• SharePoint Operational Support
• If they are not a true SharePoint SME, they will not be successful.

Microsoft Purview (Required)

Need someone who has worked directly with:

• Retention Policies
• Information Protection
• Data Classification
• DLP Policies
• Records Management
• This is not a pure Purview role, but candidate must understand how Purview impacts SharePoint governance and Copilot readiness.
