Join a dynamic healthcare team in the Pacific Northwest region as a Patient Access Specialist I, where your role is vital in delivering compassionate and efficient service to patients throughout their care journey. This position focuses on accurate patient scheduling, registration, and financial support, ensuring a seamless experience from arrival to discharge.
Job Summary As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will be responsible for registering patients accurately into healthcare systems, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing referrals and pre-authorizations. You will also handle point-of-service collections, operate multi-line phone systems, and provide timely responses to patient inquiries, all while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Key Responsibilities- Schedule and register patients with precision, ensuring data integrity including patient identification and insurance verification.
- Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services as required.
- Conduct registration interviews prior to initial visits.
- Manage point-of-service collections such as co-payments and balances, including cash drawer operations.
- Operate multi-line telephone systems to route and respond to calls professionally and promptly.
- Address patient inquiries with empathy, ensuring comfort, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Complete daily assignments and general administrative tasks efficiently.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail accurately.
- Contribute to workflow improvements and participate in special projects as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Healthcare experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering exceptional customer service with a positive attitude.
- Proficiency in insurance verification through various online and telephone systems.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and office technology.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Calm and professional demeanor during high-pressure situations.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and assignments.
- Effective written and verbal communication tailored to diverse audiences.
- Discretion in handling confidential information and maintaining accurate records.
- Basic math skills and understanding of healthcare revenue functions.

Physical Requirements Includes frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting or carrying up to 35 lbs. Work Environment This full-time role involves 10-hour shifts within a 40-hour workweek, supporting a mission-driven healthcare organization dedicated to community wellness.
