Key Responsibilities

• Function as an independent healthcare provider under the supervision of a licensed physician, ensuring comprehensive patient assessments and tailored treatment plans.
• Perform daily patient rounding, facilitating timely hospital admissions and discharges, and maintaining thorough documentation of the patient’s health status.
• Assist during surgical procedures in the operating room, including first assist duties for laparoscopy and robotic surgeries.
• Deliver pre-operative and post-operative education to patients and their families, ensuring they are well-informed about care instructions and recovery processes.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to streamline patient care processes and enhance operational efficiencies.
• Maintain accurate records, write orders, and manage consults from the emergency department and critical care unit, ensuring continuity of care.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Surgical Physician Assistant will work with a diverse patient population, including individuals of all ages requiring surgical interventions. This role involves comprehensive care management, particularly for those undergoing general surgical procedures, requiring sensitivity, empathy, and a commitment to positive patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
• Board certification as a Physician Assistant, with active state licensure in Texas.
• Current DEA License and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to demonstrate advanced communication skills, both verbally and in writing, fostering effective consultations with team members and patients alike.

Preferred Experience

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a surgical or hospital medicine context, with preferred experience in first assisting during laparoscopy and robotic surgery.
• Knowledge of advanced trauma life support; candidates must complete ATLS certification within 12 months of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

Vital City Med offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 to $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
