About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day/Night Rotation Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years inpatient nursing experience required. Oncology experience preferred, but not required. License: Valid compact or state nursing license required. Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Must-Have: Ability to float within units of equivalent or lower levels of acuity. Strong focus on infection prevention and fall prevention protocols. Description: This position involves caring for a mixed acuity patient population in a medical surgical oncology setting. The unit consists of approximately 24 beds for progressive care and 24 beds for medical surgical telemetry. Patients may present with a variety of diagnoses, including solid tumors and some blood cancers. Chemotherapy competence is not required, but training is available if interested. Pediatric patients are rarely admitted and will typically be managed by permanent staff. The emphasis is on maintaining high standards of patient safety and quality of care. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5, depending on the needs of the unit. Weekend shifts and floating to other units may be required based on staffing priorities. Interdisciplinary support includes various allied health services to ensure comprehensive patient care. Candidates should have experience with telemetry and monitoring systems. A strong commitment to continuous professional development is encouraged.
