Senior Copywriter Freelance / Contract Duration : August 2026 - January 2027 Time Commitment : 40 hours per week Location : Primarily remote Contract Type : Independent Contractor Your Role The Senior Copywriter is responsible for stewarding the organization's voice across all marketing and communication channels. This role leads content development and execution of high-impact, multichannel campaigns that drive national brand awareness, volunteer recruitment, donor engagement, and revenue growth. The ideal candidate has a strong background in direct mail marketing and direct response principles. What You'll Do Develop campaign messaging architecture including headlines, taglines, value propositions, and calls to action Write high-converting direct mail packages, including letters, inserts, envelopes and teaser copy. Adapt messaging for different customer segments and stages of the customer journey. Collaborate with designers and digital strategists to ensure copy and creative work cohesively Write persuasive content that drives volunteer recruitment, donor acquisition, reengagement, and retention Develop website copy and landing pages optimized for engagement and conversion Partner with digital marketing to align SEO, email strategy, and paid media messaging Contribute to content planning and editorial calendars aligned to strategic priorities Analyze performance data and optimize messaging accordingly Proofread and edit content for accuracy, grammar and style Your Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field. 5+ years of directly applicable professional copywriting experience Knowledge of direct response marketing principles and testing methodologies Demonstrated experience with omni-channel campaigns integrating email, digital and direct mail Strong portfolio showcasing brand storytelling, fundraising copy, and digital campaigns Proven ability to write persuasively for multiple audiences and channels Strong collaboration and project management skills Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution Your Team Work location is MN or IL.
