General Dentist (23923)

Position Overview

We are seeking a General Dentist to join a correctional facility in a permanent, full-time capacity, November/December 2026 . This is an excellent opportunity for a dentist looking for a stable, predictable practice environment with a manageable patient volume and a straightforward scope of general dentistry.

Position at a Glance

• Average of 15-25 patients per day depending on schedule worked
  • 4 days/week: Approximately 20-25 patients/day
  • 5 days/week: Approximately 15-20 patients/day
• Primarily bread-and-butter general dentistry
• No routine hygiene services, no dental hygienist
• Opportunity to work independently in a structured and consistent environment (currently in the process of hiring a DA)

Clinical Responsibilities

The dentist will provide essential general dental care to patients within the facility, including:

• Comprehensive dental exams for patients referred following their initial intake screening
• Fillings and restorative dentistry
• Simple extractions
• Diagnosis and treatment planning
• Other basic general dentistry procedures

Patients must be in the facility for 60+ days before they are eligible for routine dental care, so there is no routine hygiene component to the position. More complex cases can be referred to outside providers when appropriate if the dentist is not comfortable performing the procedure or if the necessary supplies/materials are not available onsite.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
• Active Virginia license and/or the ability to obtain a VA license
• Active Basic Life Support Certification
• Active DEA
• Has strong clinical judgment and is comfortable treating a diverse patient population
• Can adapt well to a correctional/institutional healthcare environment

Candidates should be prepared to begin the credentialing process promptly to accommodate the anticipated November/December 2026 start date, as credentialing can take 60-90 days.
