Extension Agent, Ag - Livestock and Forages (Assistant, Associate, Full Agent) The agent will serve the Ashe County community by planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in livestock, equine, forages, and pesticide safety. The role includes teaching without a traditional classroom setting and promoting research-based best practices to enhance profitability and sustainability for local farmers and ranchers. Primary Purpose of Position To provide educational leadership and outreach in all phases of livestock, equine, and forages, and to deliver pesticide education to promote safe, productive, and environmentally responsible agriculture. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement effective educational programs that meet the needs of Ashe County in livestock, equine, forages, and pesticide education. Lead program initiatives that include adoption of proven technology, business, and financial practices based on research. Coordinate with other agencies, organizations, and groups to expand outreach and reach intended audiences throughout the county. Evaluate educational program effectiveness and report results to stakeholders. Experience working with a wide variety of livestock. At least one half of a Master’s degree curriculum with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or a completed Master’s degree with an agricultural focus (preferred). High level of computer competency and prior extension or professional experience preferred. Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.
