Director of Accounts Payable (P2P)

Our growing, publicly traded client is seeking an experienced Director of Accounts Payable to lead its end-to-end Procure-to-Pay (P2P) function. This is a highly visible leadership role within corporate accounting responsible for modernizing processes, strengthening internal controls, and building a scalable AP organization that supports a complex, high-volume business. The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and a hands‑on accounting professional with deep experience managing large-scale payables operations, developing high‑performing teams, and driving automation initiatives that improve efficiency while maintaining strong financial controls. Compensation $173k to $231k per year plus 10-15% bonus; & comprehensive benefits package. Primary Responsibilities Lead all aspects of Accounts Payable and Procure-to-Pay operations in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. Manage, mentor, and develop a large AP team while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement culture. Drive process optimization through automation, AI, OCR/IDR technology, and workflow enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Partner cross‑functionally with Procurement, Operations, Supply Chain, IT, and Finance to streamline processes and improve upstream data quality. Oversee employee expense management and corporate card programs, including policy development, compliance, and system enhancements. Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX requirements, and internal control standards while serving as a key contact for internal and external audits. Own AP‑related month‑end close activities, including accruals, account reconciliations, and subledger‑to‑general ledger integrity. Develop meaningful KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to monitor operational performance and identify continuous improvement opportunities. Optimize ERP and financial systems to reduce manual processes and improve overall Procure‑to‑Pay efficiency. Requirements 15+ years of progressive accounting and Accounts Payable experience, including at least 5 years leading large teams. Extensive experience managing enterprise‑level Procure-to-Pay operations in a publicly traded organization. Strong understanding of US GAAP, SOX compliance, internal controls, and month‑end close processes. Proven success implementing AP automation, OCR/IDR technology, AI‑driven workflows, and expense management solutions. Experience with enterprise ERP systems and business intelligence/reporting tools. Hands‑on accounting background with expertise in accruals, reconciliations, and general ledger integration. Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
