Lead Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid

Responsibilities Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range. Mentor and train less experienced design team members. Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements. Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats. Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD. Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes. This role will offer a hybrid work arrangement from our future Boise, ID office. The expectation will be to spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days. Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package. Qualifications We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position. Essential Skills and Experience BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program. 12 or more years of transmission design experience. Proficiency with PLS-CADD software. Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications. Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 500kV. Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and ANSI. Experience reviewing design drawings created by others. Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience PE license PMP certification Construction experience Familiarity with ArcGIS AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process‑improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked. Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required. We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI‑enabled engineering workflows.
