Summary This vacancy is for a Human Resources Assistant (OA) position in the Human Resources Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland . U.S. Citizen. Suitable for Federal employment. Registered for Selective Service, if applicable ( A one-year probationary period may be required. This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position. This is a Term Appointment; initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 4 years. This appointment may be extended up to 10 additional years at management discretion. A USA Hire assessment is required. An email will be sent with additional information after you submit your application. You will have 48 hours from the date you submit your application to complete the assessment. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Human Resources Assistant (OA), at GG-0203-7/8, all applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirements listed below. Minimum Qualifications: To be minimally qualified for this position you must have a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors in a five-minute writing sample. AND Specialized Experience: For the GG-07 , you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GG-06 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Maintaining personnel records and verifying supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness. Researching and providing guidance to employees on basic personnel, pay, and benefits inquiries. Entering and updating personnel and payroll information in automated HR systems. Reviewing, coding, and processing standard, recurring personnel actions in strict accordance with applicable regulatory guidance (e.g., non-benefit accessions and separations, change in work schedules, name changes). Specialized Experience: For the GG-08 , you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GG-07 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Maintaining personnel records and resolving discrepancies. Researching, interpreting, and applying HR regulations, pay rules, and procedural guidance to provide employees and managers with information on moderately complex personnel, benefits, or pay matters. Entering, validating, and troubleshooting personnel and payroll data in automated HR systems, including transactions requiring multiple nature-of-action codes or other unique coding scenarios. Reviewing, coding, and processing fairly complex personnel actions (e.g., benefits related actions, conversions, promotions). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer. Education Education cannot be substituted for experience at either grade level.
