Clinical Nurse (RN), Adult Emergency Department – 12‑Hour Night Shift Full‑time night shift (Monday–Saturday nights, every other weekend). Location: Palo Alto, California (United States of America). We seek a dedicated RN to provide hands‑on, evidence‑based care within a Level1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center environment. Overview The Clinical Nurse (CN) is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Adult Emergency Department. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, coordinates care, and provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Establish therapeutic relationships by creating a healing climate, providing emotional support, and managing discomforts. Obtain accurate and relevant assessment data; interpret results to determine normal vs abnormal findings. Develop individualized nursing diagnoses and collaborate with the healthcare team to create a plan of care. Implement nursing and medical interventions safely, monitor effectiveness, and respond to adverse events. Teach patients, families, and staff information for self‑care and illness prevention; adjust instruction based on learning needs. Rapidly recognize and respond to evolving emergencies; activate emergency protocols and coordinate resources. Monitor own and others’ nursing practices for safety and compliance; identify continuous improvement opportunities. Prioritize tasks, delegate appropriately, and seek assistance to meet unit expectations while fostering a positive team environment. Contribute to the professional development of colleagues through formal or informal teaching, participation in shared governance, and professional activities. Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats across the care team. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (preferred). Minimum of one year of Emergency Department experience; two years preferred. Experience in a Level1 Trauma or comparable high‑acuity setting preferred. Excellent communication skills in English. Licenses & Certifications California Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification or completion within 6 months of hire. Emergency Nurse Certification (ENC) preferred. Physical Demands & Work Conditions Frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending, stooping, and walking. Exposure to contagious diseases, radiation, and other risks requiring protective gear. High‑pressure, emotionally challenging environment with occasional exposure to distressed patients. Requires safe and efficient use of personal protective equipment and hand hygiene protocols.
