Job Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA) plays a vital role in supporting and extending the physician's care by providing patient-centered evaluations and communication. This position involves managing specific patients under physician supervision and collaboration, adhering to state regulations governing PA practice. Medical record entries and orders require physician authentication, and inpatient evaluations by the physician must occur at least every 24 hours. Procedures are supervised directly by a physician unless competency is documented.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Operate with autonomy using strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in both acute care and clinic settings.
• Conduct thorough assessments including health histories, physical exams, and evaluation of health risks.
• Order and interpret labs, imaging, bedside records, and other clinical data relevant to patient diagnoses.
• Establish medical diagnoses and order diagnostic studies.
• Perform and monitor therapeutic procedures.
• Document patient history, physical findings, assessments, and plans in medical records.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate and guide individualized patient care.
• Prescribe and regulate medications according to written physician agreements and prescriptive authority laws.
• Perform and document history and physical exams for admissions, observations, consultations, or clinic visits.
• Conduct daily bedside evaluations and record progress notes for physician review (inpatient).
• Prepare discharge paperwork and summaries timely for assigned patients.
• Write admitting, daily, and discharge orders appropriate to patient condition (inpatient).
• Foster teamwork with physicians to ensure efficient care delivery.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and support staff.
• Meet regularly with physicians to review evaluations and care plans.
• Participate in quality, safety, and utilization studies to enhance patient care and cost-effectiveness.
• Alert physicians to acute patient status changes, critical labs, or imaging findings for timely intervention.
• Comply with medical staff rules, regulations, and health information policies to maintain accurate records.
• Prepare and submit billing materials promptly.
• Share on-call duties with physician backup as required.

Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Previous PA experience preferred. Commitment to ongoing continuing medical education.

Licensure and Certifications: Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Licensed to practice in the relevant state.

Work Shift: First shift, full-time (40 hours per week). This role is based in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States, offering a collaborative and supportive environment for professional growth and patient-centered care.
