Overview Smile Brands is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support our California operations within a large, multi-site dental organization. This role serves as a trusted advisor to leaders across a workforce of 1,000+ employees, providing guidance on employee relations, workplace investigations, employment law, compliance, performance management, and workforce-related matters. This is a highly employee relations-focused HRBP position. The ideal candidate has strong California employment law knowledge, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable managing complex employee situations independently while partnering closely with operational leaders. Schedule (days/hours) Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm PST Responsibilities Serve as a trusted HR partner to leaders on employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns. Conduct workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, policy violations, misconduct, and employee complaints. Coach leaders on performance management, corrective action, conflict resolution, and termination decisions. Provide guidance on California employment laws, including wage and hour compliance, meal and rest break requirements, CFRA, FMLA, ADA, accommodations, and leaves of absence. Partner with Legal, Compliance, and HR teams on high-risk employee matters and risk mitigation strategies. Ensure consistent application of company policies and employment practices. Analyze employee relations trends and recommend proactive solutions to improve compliance and reduce risk. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation related to investigations and employee relations matters. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 5 years focused on Employee Relations, workplace investigations, and employment law compliance. Significant experience supporting large, multi-site organizations with 1,000+ employees. Demonstrated sound knowledge in California employment law and HR compliance requirements. Extensive experience conducting workplace investigations from intake through resolution. Strong experience managing accommodations, protected leaves, performance management, corrective action, and termination processes. Experience assessing employment-related risk and making recommendations in partnership with business leaders and legal counsel. Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to prepare investigation reports and executive-level documentation. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organization. Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification. Experience supporting healthcare, dental, retail, hospitality, or other multi-site service-based organizations. Experience working within highly regulated environments. Familiarity with HRIS systems such as UKG, Workday, or SuccessFactors. Experience partnering directly with employment counsel on complex investigations and legal matters.
