Job Title Manager – Operations (Full Time) Location Aurora, IL Division Contract Position Summary Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervising warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. The role involves planning inbound and outbound volume, customer communication, space utilization, and equipment management. People‑management responsibilities include hiring, training, labor planning, performance appraisals, and problem resolution. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Develop and implement systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably. Manage operations to meet productivity and service goals, complying with client SLAs. Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives and provide ideas for efficient operations and cost savings. Meet client‑specified KPIs and comply with quality system requirements. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques to supervise and, if needed, discipline team members. Collaborate with HR to create hiring, training, and professional development programs and participate in performance evaluations. Deliver results by leveraging the right people at the right time. Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical operational issues. Plan daily work schedule by reviewing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions; assign duties accordingly. Review volume demands to plan warehouse space reorganization and adjust staffing or supply levels. Training & Development Ensure effective training is delivered by qualified individuals and ensure adherence to SOPs. Assess trainees’ progress to determine new hire performance and cultural fit. Maintain high motivation among team members to focus on customer satisfaction. Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities. Support adherence to SOPs and conduct routine staff meetings. Management Information Systems Ensure team members are trained on required information systems (WMS) to meet company and client objectives. Ensure necessary software and hardware are purchased per corporate IT policies. Stay knowledgeable about changes in hardware and software technology. Develop proficiency in client systems. Customer Management Maintain high‑level customer service standards across all functions. Ensure client accounts receive required operational and administrative support. Maintain appropriate contact with all functions and respond to customer requests. Attend or lead meetings with key customers regarding any issues. Coordinate supplier/customer visits to the site. Promote positive client relationships by providing excellent service. Budgeting & Financials Support development of an annual operating budget. Manage controls to meet service and performance goals within cost, revenue, and profit parameters. Ensure budgeting and pricing activities comply with contract guidelines. Equipment & Facilities Manage programs for sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and material handling equipment. Train team members on MHE usage. Stay informed of new technology and make recommendations. Safety Achieve company safety metrics (IFR) by creating a proactive safety culture. Audit the warehouse for compliance with safety, security, and quality rules. Ensure adherence to all federal, provincial, or other statutory requirements. Other Duties Work overtime as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Manage warehouse operations supervisors and support staff. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Seven years’ experience in logistics, distribution, or a related environment. Five years’ experience in a supervisory role. Must be able to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures ranging from mild to moderate (both warm and cold months). Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Demonstrated proficiency with applicable WMS systems. Language Skills English – reading, writing, verbal. Business communication proficiency at all levels. Additional Skills Strong attention to detail and timely completion of tasks. Good organizational and personnel skills. Excellent written and oral communication. Leadership, supervision, and planning skills. Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as required. Adaptability to change and thriving in fast‑paced environments.
