Project Accountant / Accounts, Payroll & HR Coordinator, Construction Industry (NYC)

Midtown Manhattan, in the office five days a week. Full-time. $80k-$100k base, flexible based on experience, plus a performance bonus.

About the company

We're hiring for an established New York construction group made up of three related companies: specialty contractors and a general contractor, all working on high-end residential projects. This is a hands-on seat in a small, close-knit office team, and you'll work directly with the owners and project teams.

What you'll do

HR and payroll (the main part of the job):

Run weekly payroll in ADP, which includes collecting and checking hours and reviewing expense receipts.
Keep payroll and the books in QuickBooks aligned.
Look after HR admin, including benefits and health insurance renewals.
Track payroll deductions, such as tool purchases.

Billing and receivables:

Prepare time-and-materials billing by reviewing job costs, collecting hours, and confirming them with the field.
Follow up on collections and keep receivables current.
Handle lien waivers.
Keep job costing accurate for management reports.

Payables and office backup:

Code material invoices to jobs.
Check subcontractor invoices against completed work.
Help with general office work.

What you'll bring

3+ years of accounting experience at a construction company (general contractor, subcontractor or trade contractor). This is required.
Payroll experience. ADP and QuickBooks are a big plus.
Some HR and office experience.
Strong communication skills.
A go-getter and team player who doesn't wait to be told and is happy to wear many hats.
Attention to detail. You question numbers that don't look right.
An interest in finding smarter ways to work, including automation and AI tools.
No degree or CPA required.
