JUVENILE JUSTICE DETENTION OFFICER I – 80053390 Requisition No: 877896 – Working Title: JUVENILE JUSTICE DETENTION OFFICER I – 80053390 – Position Number: 80053390 The Department of Juvenile Justice offers a role as a Juvenile Justice Detention Officer in Florida, focusing on enhancing public safety and delivering high–quality services for youth and families. This position is a pool announcement with multiple openings. Location COCOA, FL 32927; 32922; 32796; 32940; 32934; 32926; 32709; 32955; 32901; 32907; 32953; 32909; 32929; 32905; 32935; 32078; 32781; 32780; 32904; 32754 Salary and Benefits Minimum biweekly rate of pay: $1,676.76. 104 hours of paid vacation annually. 96 hours of paid sick leave annually, with unlimited accrual of unused hours. 9 paid holidays and 1 personal day per year. 6 paid credit hours per term at Florida colleges and universities. Participation in a student loan debt forgiveness program. Group health insurance and dental plans. Secure pension/investment plan. Responsibilities Ensure public safety by maintaining a safe and secure environment for troubled youth. Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to juvenile offenders. Apply department and facility operating policies and procedures. Conduct safety procedures and strip searches. Maintain hygiene and housekeeping tasks to keep the facility sanitary. Recognize signs of suicide or depression among youth. Address issues experienced by youth. Determine appropriate use of force. Provide constructive feedback and use conflict–management skills. Prepare reports and maintain records relating to supervision. Communicate orally and in writing with youth, co‑workers, supervisors, and the public. Qualifications Be at least 19 years of age. Be a high school graduate or equivalent. No felony conviction or misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, or dishonorable discharge. (Detailed legal restrictions apply.) Must comply with fingerprinting, background investigations, and screening requirements. Must execute and submit an affidavit‑of‑application form under oath. Earn certification in direct‑care training within 180 days of employment. Have a valid driver’s license if required; maintain a driving record as mandated. Pass the Ergometric’s IMPACT Assessment and Training Test if not already a system direct‑care worker. Be able to work rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime or double shifts. Do not have a sex offender record or other disqualifying background. Special Notes Facility operates 24/7/365; shift scheduling and overtime may be required. All candidates will undergo sex offender check, criminal background checks, and pre‑employment drug screening. Driving requirements apply for positions that include youth transportation. Reasonable accommodation must be notified in advance. All employees are subject to reasonable‑suspicion drug testing in accordance with Florida law.
