Role Description The University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking an experienced and highly strategic leader to serve as Chief of Staff to the Dean. The Chief of Staff serves as a senior advisor, integrator, and operational partner to the Dean and is a member of the Dean’s Cabinet and College of Medicine Executive Leadership. Working closely with the Dean and leaders across the College, the Chief of Staff helps connect people, priorities, and resources and translates executive direction into coordinated organizational action. A central focus of the role is seeing across the organization: identifying connections and dependencies, bringing the right leaders and perspectives together, and helping create alignment, effective decision-making, accountability, and follow-through. The Chief of Staff will also champion priority projects and initiatives assigned by the Dean, providing leadership and coordination while connecting the appropriate stakeholders and resources to move the work forward. The position provides leadership for the administrative and operational effectiveness of the Office of the Dean and may represent the Dean on substantive institutional matters within delegated authority. This role requires exceptional executive judgment, discretion, political and organizational acumen, and the ability to build trusted relationships and influence across a complex academic health environment. Qualifications Significant leadership experience in higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, or another complex, highly matrixed organization. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior executive leadership and translate priorities into organizational action. Exceptional executive judgment, discretion, political and organizational acumen, and emotional intelligence. Ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics, build trusted relationships, and influence without direct authority. Strong strategic thinking and ability to synthesize complex information, anticipate implications, and facilitate executive decision-making. Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and executive communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex and competing priorities in an environment of change and ambiguity. Experience leading and developing professional staff. Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience, or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of experience.
