Job Summary This position works under general supervision of a physician, mid-level provider, and/or nursing supervisor to provide nursing services in the care and treatment of patients. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree (BSN). Professional certification from a nursing organization. Job Duties Perform and accurately document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments. All assessments consider age‑specific criteria (children, adolescents, adults, and older adults). Actively anticipate patients’ and/or families’ needs and expectations, integrating them with assessments to develop appropriate plans of care. Utilize critical thinking in planning and prioritizing nursing care. Maintain and utilize unit competencies. Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment results; complete accurate and timely documentation. Act as a coordinator of interdisciplinary plans of care, conferring with all healthcare team members in a collaborative manner. Prioritize nursing interventions. Promptly identify changes in condition—evidenced by assessment, labs, imaging, etc.—and report changes, taking appropriate follow‑up action. Involve patients in their care plan and keep patients, families, and caregivers informed. Evaluate implemented interventions, modify care accordingly, and document changes accurately and timely. Adhere to hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards. Incorporate ANA standards, professional practice model (Shared Governance), and care delivery model (Relationship Based Care) into patient care. Provide timely answers and/or education to patients, families, significant others, and/or caregivers. Document education provided, including discharge plans. Assess competence, obtain feedback, and demonstrate effective communication based on patient needs and learning preferences. Welcome and orient patients, families, and caregivers to the unit; encourage participation in care. Review personalized patient plans with patients/families each shift. Update whiteboards and set daily goals with patient input. Explain special diets, tests, procedures, and medications in clear, appropriate language. Make hourly rounds and communicate return times. Advocate for resources and support that enhance patient safety and unit/hospital initiatives. Participate in data evaluation to guide decisions regarding unit/department budgets. Conduct peer evaluations to provide constructive feedback. Hold coworkers accountable for policies and standards; intervene when patient safety is at risk. Accountable for patient care and quality/safety initiatives such as patient safety, satisfaction, core measures, and infection control. Share professional and technical information with colleagues and students; serve as a resource (e.g., preceptor, charge, mentor, unit expert). Perform other duties as assigned.
