SOUS CHEF (FULL TIME)

Full‑time Sous Chef with the Wheeler School – 211 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906. Online applications only. Schedule: Full‑time. Days and hours may vary. Decision on schedule after interview. Qualifications: Previous sous chef experience required. Internal employee referral bonus available. Pay Range: $24.00 to $26.00 per hour. Job Summary Helps the Executive Chef prepare and cook foods, coordinates activities of cooks and other food‑service associates, and assumes responsibility for the kitchen staff in the absence of the Executive Chef. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards, ensuring all deadlines are met based on production orders. Supervise hourly food‑service associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviews, and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate. Store food in designated areas following all corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures. Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils; clean workstations thoroughly before leaving the area; keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to meet sanitation, safety, production, and merchandising requirements. Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner; relay relevant information directly to supervisor. Demonstrate complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explain them to associates and customers. Keep up with peak production and service hours. Monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies, track product production, consumption, and waste, and inform supervisor when supplies or product are low. Perform other duties as assigned.
