Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description

The CNC Machinist performs precision CNC operations, including setup, operation, and in-process inspection of parts on vertical, horizontal, and lathe CNC machines. This role supports both personal and team production by setting up equipment, verifying quality, and editing or retrieving CNC programs to ensure accurate and efficient machining.

Responsibilities

• Set up vertical, horizontal, and lathe CNC machines, including mills, lathes, Mazak, and Swiss-style equipment, according to process sheets and specifications.
• Operate CNC machines by following process sheets, engineering drawings, and other required documentation to produce parts to specification.
• Perform CNC setup and changeovers efficiently to support production schedules and minimize downtime.
• Inspect own work using hand tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges, pin gauges, height gauges, and indicators, following in-process inspection requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and quality standards.
• Edit and retrieve CNC programs from system files as needed to ensure correct and efficient machining operations.
• Calculate machining requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry to support accurate offsets, compensations, and part programs.
• Perform offsets, compensations, and use conditional switches to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
• Prove out part programs by running test pieces, verifying dimensions, and making necessary adjustments before full production.
• Inspect and verify work prior to submitting it for final inspection to ensure compliance with all specifications.
• Identify non-conforming parts or processes and follow non-conforming material procedures to document and resolve issues.
• Troubleshoot machining and setup issues to maintain machine uptime and consistent product quality.
• Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support production goals and continuous improvement efforts.

• Proven experience setting up and operating CNC machines, including vertical, horizontal, and lathe equipment.
• Hands-on experience with CNC lathes, Mazak machines, mills, and Swiss-style machines.
• Proficiency in CNC setup, including changeovers and adjustments to support efficient production.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, with the ability to interpret drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
• Ability to operate and monitor CNC machines while following process sheets and required paperwork.
• Experience editing and retrieving CNC programs from system files to support machining operations.
• Ability to perform offsets, compensations, and use conditional switches on CNC controls.
• Competence in using hand inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges, pin gauges, height gauges, and indicators.
• Ability to calculate machining requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Experience proving part programs and validating dimensions before releasing parts to full production.
• Ability to inspect and verify work and follow non-conforming material procedures when issues arise.
• Troubleshooting skills for resolving machining, setup, and quality issues.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision parts.

• Experience working in a precision machining or manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with Mazak controls and Swiss machining operations.
• Comfort working with both mills and lathes in a production setting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong reliability, safety awareness, and willingness to follow established procedures.
• Good communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and support continuous improvement.

Work Environment

The work environment is a temperature-controlled, clean, and well-lit precision manufacturing facility. Operations run on two primary shifts: first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and second shift from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. Team members receive a 45-minute lunch break, with 30 minutes paid. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and professionalism, with modern CNC equipment and inspection tools used daily to support high-quality production.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Loves Park, IL.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $40.00/hr.
