Senior Human Resources Specialist

As the company continues to expand, they are seeking a Senior HR Generalist to serve as a critical partner in supporting employees, managers, and organizational growth.
Summary
The Senior HR Generalist will serve as a strategic and operational HR partner, leading core human resources functions including employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, HR systems, performance management, employee lifecycle support, and process improvement initiatives. This role requires an experienced HR professional capable of operating independently, advising managers on complex employee matters, driving compliance efforts, and contributing to the development and execution of HR programs that support business objectives and organizational growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day HR operations while serving as a trusted advisor to employees and managers across the organization
- Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters, performance management, policy interpretation, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution
- Manage benefits administration and serve as the primary liaison with brokers, carriers, and external vendors
- Oversee leave of absence programs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations
- Lead employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, development, performance management, promotions, transfers, and offboarding
- Partner with leadership to support workforce planning, organizational development, succession planning, and talent retention initiatives
- Maintain ownership of HR compliance programs, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws
- Manage government reporting requirements, including EEO-1 reporting, Form 5500 filings, affirmative action support, and 401(k) audits
- Oversee immigration and employment authorization processes in partnership with external legal counsel
- Analyze HR data and metrics to identify trends, provide recommendations, and support business decisions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating, developing, and implementing HR processes, policies, and system enhancements
- Lead annual HR programs including open enrollment, compensation planning, bonus administration, performance review cycles, and employee engagement initiatives
- Review, update, and maintain employee handbook policies and HR documentation to ensure compliance and consistency
- Support and mentor junior HR team members while serving as a key resource for HR best practices
- Partner with senior leadership on special projects and strategic HR initiatives that support organizational growth and culture development
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
- 8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant experience in employee relations, compliance, benefits, and HR operations
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex HR issues and advise managers on sensitive employee matters
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR compliance requirements
- Experience supporting organizational growth within engineering, construction, architecture, professional services, or similar project-based environments preferred
- Proven experience managing HR systems, reporting, and process improvement initiatives
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, and reporting functions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to influence and partner effectively with managers and senior leaders
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred
- Experience leveraging AI tools, automation technologies, or Microsoft Copilot within HR operations is a plus
