Position 1.0 FTE Athletic Trainer at Wilmington Public Schools, Wilmington High School – Wilmington, Massachusetts. Job Details Job ID: 5699153 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 07, 2026 12:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 15, 2026 Job Description The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the comprehensive management of athletic health care services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes. This role ensures a safe and effective environment for athletic participation through collaboration with coaches, physicians, and school administration. Qualifications Proven expertise in the oversight of head injury protocols, student-athlete psychological well‑being, and execution of urgent medical response strategies. Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers. Massachusetts State Licensure as an Athletic Trainer (or eligibility for licensure by start date). Successful fulfillment of SORI, CORI, and mandatory fingerprinting background screenings in accordance with Massachusetts state mandates. Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from a CAATE accredited program. Experience working in the high school or collegiate athletic settings preferred. Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered in conformity with state licensure requirements. Familiarity with MIAA rules and regulations per Sports Medicine Coverage and Athletic procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the daily operations, organization, and maintenance of the Athletic Training Room and all related medical equipment and supplies. Provide immediate and ongoing care for athletic injuries and illnesses, including injury evaluation, emergency response, and referral to appropriate medical professionals. Assess and determine student-athlete readiness for participation and administer medical clearances as appropriate. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized rehabilitation and return‑to‑play programs in collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers. Apply preventative and protective measures, including taping, bracing, and bandaging, to reduce injury risk. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of all evaluations, treatments, and athlete interactions. Communicate effectively with coaches, physicians, administration, and families regarding injury status, recovery progress, and participation limitations. Serve as the primary medical responder for athletic events, including coverage of all home football and hockey games and other assigned athletic events. Prioritize and attend high‑risk sporting events based on injury prevalence and program needs. Monitor and ensure safe conditions of athletic facilities, including the training room, fields, and weight room. Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to support weight room safety, functionality and athlete usage protocols. Coordinate baseline and follow‑up concussion testing (e.g., ImPACT) and manage return‑to‑play protocols in accordance with best practices. Facilitate athlete education on injury prevention, recovery strategies, nutrition, and hydration. Manage inventory, ordering and budgeting of athletic training supplies and equipment, including recommendations for purchase, repair and replacement. Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment before and after practices and competitions, ensuring cleanliness and readiness. Attend required meetings and events, including seasonal coaching meetings and annual athletics programming. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
