Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Position Summary Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Design and Manufacturing within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The expected start date is August 2026. Applicants from other areas within mechanical engineering are welcome, but preference will be given to those with expertise in design and manufacturing. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering design and manufacturing. Develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program. Contribute to the department and professional community through service. Qualifications Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Strong background in design theory, design automation, design for manufacturing and lifecycle, additive manufacturing, computer‑aided design, systems engineering, digital engineering, AI/ML applications in design and manufacturing. Industry work experience related to design and manufacturing is favored. Research Environment The Mechanical Engineering Department has three major research strengths: design and manufacturing, thermal‑fluid sciences, and dynamic systems/robotics. Florida Tech has recently committed over $14million to enhance engineering and science research infrastructure, including lab renovations and advanced equipment for composites, materials characterization, and spacecraft manufacturing.
