In the 1960's, it was acquired by Murco and in 1998 by Packerland. In 2000, Packerland was acquired by Smithfield. In 2010, the facility joined the JBS USA family. Plainwell is the only JBS plant with Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP), a packaging process that changes oxygen levels to extend shelf-life. The MAP process is a part of the Plainwell ground beef operation. Plainwell is also one of the few plants that produces ground beef patties. Over one million lbs (450,000 kg) of beef are produced each day. The Plainwell facility produces biogas in an anaerobic lagoon and uses it in place of natural gas to heat a portion of the water used in the plant. The facility was recognized by the American Meat Institute as a Tier 3 facility for its accomplishments with ISO 14001. Plainwell recently built a $31 million distribution center (85,000 ft²) with a 55,000 box capacity. FAB MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR General Description: Manage and supervise hourly employees, schedule and direct workforce. Ensures area is properly staffed/ crewed to meet operational needs.Coordinates maintenance employee’s responsibilities and oversees mechanical equipmentProcess maintenance downtime reportsAssign work orders or special projects to maintenance employeesMaintain department budget within specified guidelinesTrack Time and attendance for payrollResponsible for meeting volume goals, reducing claims, maximizing yields, reducing costs and employee retentionConducts pre-operational inspection, and handles maintenance concerns of Production Supervisors to ensure operation begins as scheduledConducts safety meetings and safety auditsProvides technical, mechanical, and/or electrical assistance throughout shiftKnowledge of PM’sDelegates training procedures to maintenance employeesAssign projects to appropriate maintenance personnelMaintains good working relationships with the Union, USDA, and maintenance employees.Manage job changes/ rotationsRequired Skills: Able to communicate verbally and in written form in EnglishMechanical inclination and knowledge of job specificationsGeneral knowledge of machinery associated with the industryStrong mechanical and electrical skillsStrong trouble shooting skills, with the ability to make quick decisionsKnowledge in electrical, hydraulic, welding and some PLC trainingAbility to work 50+ hours1-2 years proven supervisory experience; preferably in a manufacturing or production environment but not requiredPeople management skills EOE/Vets/Disability
