Registered Nurse - IMC/PCU/Stepdown (Ortho Trauma)

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) | Onsite | Every other weekend rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care on a 16-bed mixed acuity ortho trauma unit with a 1:5 RN-to-patient ratio, caring for post-surgical trauma patients including MVA, GSW, blunt/penetrating trauma, amputations, and elective surgical cases
• Perform and manage clinical skills including blood administration, skeletal and Buck's traction, drain management (JP, CT), wound dressings, wound VAC management, and wound care
• Administer and monitor IV drips including Heparin and insulin infusions; manage high-flow oxygen and stable BiPAP patients as needed
• Utilize Cerner EMR for documentation; operate unit equipment including Plum ICU Medical IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Participate in every other weekend rotation and holiday scheduling per facility expectations; all time-off requests must be submitted through the unit manager
• May be responsible for lab collections when phlebotomy staffing is unavailable; float to mixed acuity areas only as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for the state of Kentucky
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience required (3 years preferred); experience must include stepdown, telemetry, or higher-acuity care beyond standard Med/Surg
• Must be comfortable managing Med/Surg through stepdown level of care
• First-time travel nurses are not eligible for this position

Preferred Experience / Skills

• 3 or more years of stepdown or PCU experience
• Prior experience with Cerner EMR, Omnicell, and Philips monitoring systems
• Familiarity with unit-specific equipment such as Arjo lifts, kangaroo pumps, and PCA sapphire pumps
• Experience caring for complex surgical patients including Whipple procedures and cholecystectomies
