Job Overview

The Senior Customs Brokerage Specialist owns the bond, in-bond and FTZ work behind Effy’s duty-free shops onboard cruise ships and at ports of call. Merchandise is bought worldwide, received into bonded warehouses, repacked by vessel, moved in bond to loading ports and exported to the ship. You arrive with strong working knowledge of FTZs, bonded warehousing and bond drawdown, and you step in on day one to take ownership of the process from outside providers. You know every open bond, I.T., warehouse entry and FTZ transaction, see problems before CBP does, and fix the process behind them. This is a senior, high-autonomy role: you decide how to import and export smartly, and you bring leadership a recommendation, not a question.

This role is based at our New York City headquarters and requires five days a week onsite for candidates in or near the New York City area. We also welcome remote candidates across the U.S., with a preference for those based in Miami.

Key Skillsets

• Bond program & drawdown. Owns continuous and single-transaction bonds with the surety and broker, monitors sufficiency against activity, and draws bonded balances down as cargo is exported, loaded to vessels or withdrawn. Reconciles to warehouse, 3PL and broker records every cycle.

• In-bond & bonded warehouse. Runs CBP Form 7512 / I.T. movements, port codes, arrival reporting and the 15-day export clock. Manages warehouse entries, bonded pick-and-pack and vessel repacks, and the export proof that closes each movement.
\n
• Entries & clearance. Prepares and reviews entries and entry summaries (CBP 3461 / 7501) in ACE and checks the broker’s work. Verifies origin, value, classification support, FDA and DG requirements before cargo moves.
\n
• Foreign-trade zone. Runs FTZ admissions, transfers and withdrawals (CBP 214 / 216) and 19 CFR 146 recordkeeping with the zone operator. Knows where an FTZ or a different warehouse setup helps, and where it does not.
\n
• Import, export & tariff expertise. Understands what drives duty cost (classification, valuation, origin, trade programs and active tariff measures) and uses it to decide how and where EFFY imports, stores, moves and exports goods. Tells the business what rule changes mean for cost and timing.

• Compliance & integrity. Licensed broker who applies reasonable care, keeps training and qualifications current to best practice, and partners with Legal on audits, prior disclosures and policy changes.

• Vendors & process. Holds the broker, 3PL and forwarders to service levels, backup coverage and penalty accountability. Fixes the process behind recurring problems and keeps SOPs, checklists and dashboards current.

• Ownership under pressure. Runs many deadline-driven files at once with little oversight, re-plans fast when vessel schedules or ports change, and closes every open item. Works in ACE, an ERP or WMS (D365 a plus) and advanced Excel.

• In-bond calendar. Own every CBP Form 7512 / I.T., its port codes, arrival reporting and 15-day export deadline, planned around vessel schedules at loading ports such as Port Everglades, Miami, New Orleans, Mobile and San Diego. • Warehouse entries and bonded PNP. Own warehouse entries, bonded pick-and-pack requests and vessel-specific repacks with the 3PL and broker, including request format, turnaround, tracking and the export documentation that closes each movement. Gratitude & Clarity

• Entries and clearance. Prepare and review entries and entry summaries in ACE and review the broker’s work rather than relying on it. Set document standards for vendors and forwarders (commercial invoice with origin per item, FDA data, DG paperwork) and hold them to it. Leading with Clarity and Integrity

• Foreign-trade zone. Own FTZ operations and the business case for them: admissions, transfers, withdrawals, inventory reconciliation and 19 CFR 146 recordkeeping. • Import, export and tariff expertise. Be EFFY’s subject-matter expert on what drives duty cost and how to plan imports and exports smartly. Quantify cost and timing trade-offs, track tariff and regulatory changes, and recommend changes with Legal sign-off. The goal is compliance and cost clarity. • Process and compliance. Find and fix recurring breakdowns: document gaps, port-code and consignee corrections, split cargo and missed handoffs. Write and maintain SOPs, checklists and dashboards, and report open deadlines, penalty exposure and trends to leadership. Reflect & Improve

• Vendor management. Manage the broker, 3PL and forwarder relationships: service levels, backup coverage, accountability for CBP penalties, and rate and scope reviews. Give input on bond and FTZ scope in 3PL decisions. Leadership as Partnership

Qualifications

\n
• Required: Active U.S. Customs Broker license in good standing, with required filings, continuing training and qualifications kept current to industry best practice. 6+ years in customs brokerage, entry writing or import compliance, including bond and in-bond work. Strong working knowledge of FTZs, bonded warehouses and bond drawdown. Recognized import, export and tariff expertise, with deep knowledge of ACE and CBP Forms 3461, 7501, 7512, 214 and 216. A record of improving a process. Strong Excel skills. Unquestioned integrity on compliance. Available on U.S. East Coast hours, including sailing-day coverage.

• Preferred: Duty-free, ship-stores or cruise-supply experience, including loading ports and vessel-specific export documentation. FTZ software, ERP or WMS and trade-compliance systems (D365 a plus). Experience managing a 3PL or broker.

Salary Range:

$125,000 - $135,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
