Senior Accountant

Job Title: Senior Accountant Reports to: National Accountant The Senior Accountant serves as a vital intermediary between the National Finance Office and Station Accountants across the Maryland District, ensuring consistent application of financial policies, timely communication, accurate financial reporting, and compliance with National financial directives and statutory requirements. The incumbent is expected to provide effective leadership to the accounting team, fostering collaboration with line managers and functional leaders (Relevant Statutory Bodies) to ensure the timely and accurate execution of financial processes. Working closely with the National Accountant, the Senior Accountant coordinates and consolidates financial reports from all assigned stations, provides guidance and support to station accountants, and facilitates the efficient implementation of financial directives and reporting standards across the Mission. The Senior Accountant reports functionally to the National Accountant, who provides technical oversight and professional direction. Administratively, the position reports to the District Pastor and provides financial accountability and executive reporting support to the National Pastor. The Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant are outlined below: RESPONSIBILITIES Prepares and enters departmental journal entries in QuickBooks. Posts transactions to the general Reconciles bank accounts, sub-ledgers and payroll Review requests for appropriateness, proper authorization, and consistency with the commission’s policies. Reviews and verify invoices against check Tracks expenses and process expense Prepares and processes electronic transfers and Manages and oversees the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable payments. Facilitates the resolution of invoice discrepancies and Maintains A/P vendor Maintains accurate historical Coordinates the preparation of the annual budget for the National church. Monitors budget requests, approvals, and payments in line with the annual approved budget estimates for each Station to the National Church. Prepares monthly and annual budget variance Serve as the primary liaison between the National Accountant and all Station Accountants within all Districts. Reviews and consolidates monthly financial reports from stations prior to submission to the National Finance Office. Monitors compliance with National financial policies, internal controls, and statutory reporting requirements across all stations. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to Station Accountants on QuickBooks, financial reporting, accounting standards, and financial policies. Coordinate month-end and year-end financial close activities with station accountants to ensure timely reporting. Prepare executive financial analyses and management reports for the National Accountant, District Pastor, Financial Management Committee, Church Board, and National Pastor as required. Supports the coordination of annual external audits, internal audits, and regulatory reviews. Develops, implements, and continuous improvements of standardized accounting procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all stations. Review significant financial transactions and provide recommendations on accounting treatment and policy compliance. Identifies financial risks, recommend corrective actions, and monitor implementation of agreed action plans. Performs periodic financial reviews of station operations and provide recommendations to strengthen stewardship and accountability. Assists the National Accountant in performing required national functions. The incumbent works to effectuate all finance obligations of WCI stations under Maryland District while ensuring the entrenchment of the localization policy and driving compliance with statutory and regulatory directives. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Education (Academics & Professional) Bachelor’s in accounting/finance or related field. Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, ACA/ICAN) Experience 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities; nonprofit/church or multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred. Technical Competencies Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks (required). Advanced Microsoft Excel. Financial reporting and analysis. Budget preparation and monitoring. Bank reconciliations and general ledger management. Internal controls and compliance. Financial statement consolidation. ERP/accounting systems experience.
