Montclair is a wonderful town with a community that loves its library. As visits, program participation, and patron engagement continue to grow, we are looking for a Marketing Associate to help us meet the demand. The Marketing Associate is a creative, community-minded teammate who helps tell the story of the library. This role is about design, storytelling, and follow-through: you will be building flyers and posters, writing newsletters, creating social content, and making sure community members of all backgrounds know what the library has to offer. About You You are collaborative, detail-oriented, and always looking for new creative approaches to engaging the community You have a good eye and you care about how things look, from a one-page flyer to a full campaign You are confident with design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and most importantly, you arewilling to learn new systems quickly You write clearly and warmly, and you catch your own typos You are curious about social media and willing to research and learn new trends and approaches to content You bring a good attitude to brainstorming and enjoy developing ideas with team members You have a strong customer-service mindset and work flexibly across departments and with community partners You thrive when several projects are moving at once You are a team player and understand that the library is one system, not silos You believe libraries are for learning, belonging, and community The Role As the Marketing Associate, you help connect our community with the library’s wealth of resources, programs, and services. Your day may include designing a poster for an upcoming author talk, pulling together the weekly patron newsletter, filming a quick behind-the-scenes reel, brainstorming next month’s content calendar, and packing up a table for a Saturday street fair. You will work closely with the Marketing & Communications Lead and with staff across every department. This role suits a creative, community-minded person who understands basic design principles and excels at multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Design print and digital marketing assets (flyers, brochures, posters, and digital assets) using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite under the guidance of the Marketing Lead Ensure all materials are accessible and align with the library’s branding guidelines Compile, format, and distribute weekly email newsletters to patrons detailing upcoming events and programs Create content for the library’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and others) highlighting library events, book recommendations, and behind-the-scenes library life Assist in the development of a content calendar and contribute creative ideas to help grow the library’s social media presence Assist with the organization and design of larger scale projects and library-wide initiatives Attend library outreach events as needed Other duties as assigned This Job Is Not for Someone Who Wants to work only from a desk and never at a community event Prefers to work alone and resists collaboration across departments Waits to be handed ideas rather than bringing their own Avoids new tools, platforms, or shifting social media trends Finds it hard to move between several projects in a single day Qualifications Minimum Four year degree from an accredited college or university Proficiency with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) Solid understanding of core design principles such as visual hierarchy, typography, color theory, and the effective use of white space, so that promotional materials are professional and easy to read Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a knack for adopting a warm, welcoming, and informative tone Knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact) Knowledge of social media marketing practices Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with staff across departments and with community partners Preferred Two years of experience in a design or marketing role Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite) Part-time, 20 hours per week, three days per week.
