Senior Production Supervisor – MetalsThe Senior Production Supervisor – Metals leads the daily execution of work within the Metals value stream, with accountability for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and hourly team development. Reporting to the Value Stream Manager – Metals, this role owns the shop floor cadence — ensuring the plan built by the value stream is executed safely, to standard, on time, and on budget.This role enables the success of the value stream by owning tactical execution at the shop floor, surfacing issues early, and driving countermeasures on SQDC — allowing the Value Stream Manager to focus on strategic execution, cross-functional integration, and value stream-level improvement.As the primary connection between value stream leadership and the hourly workforce, the Senior Production Supervisor translates priorities into action and reinforces standard work, daily management, and continuous improvement at the point of execution.Beyond the Metals value stream, this role also serves as the coach, mentor, and guide for Production Supervisors across the shipyard and joinery — setting the standard for daily execution, SQDC discipline, and shop floor leadership.Essential Job FunctionsDaily Execution & SQDC OwnershipOwn daily execution of the Metals production schedule, meeting safety, quality, delivery, and cost commitments within budgeted labor and operating expense hoursOwn the department SQDC board(s) — running the daily tier meeting, gathering and sharing specific details on hits and misses, and driving countermeasures with emphasis on Delivery and Cost, while leveraging key support partners inside and outside the value stream (Engineering, Planning, Quality, and others) to close gaps quickly.Escalate constraints, risks, and cross-functional blockers to the Value Stream Manager with the context needed for rapid decision-makingCollaborate with planning to ensure work is sequenced optimally, staffed, and equipped to run to plan each shiftValue Stream Leadership PartnershipServe as the VSM's primary execution partner — owning the tactical layer so the VSM can focus on value stream-level strategy, integration, and improvementProvide accurate, timely floor-level data, observations, and issue surfacing to inform value stream decisionsExecute against the priorities, standards, and improvement plans set by the VSM, and hold the team accountable to themRepresent the value stream on the floor in the VSM's absence, maintaining continuity of standards and expectationsTeam Development & Hourly CapabilityLead hourly team development to continuously increase manufacturing capability across metals disciplines (welding, forming, fitting, fabrication, assembly)Staff, train, evaluate, coach, and develop associates in partnership with Human Resources and Quality AssuranceBuild cross-functional knowledge within the team to increase flexibility and reduce single points of failureRecognize and reward behaviors that support safety, quality, and continuous improvementPeer Leadership & Supervisor DevelopmentServe as the coach, mentor, and guide for Production Supervisors across other value streams, modeling the standard for daily execution and shop floor leadershipLead peer Supervisors along the SQDC journey — from board setup and daily tier cadence, to quality of hits/misses data, to disciplined countermeasure execution and sustained improvementShare standard work, tools, and lessons learned across value streams to accelerate consistency and reduce variability in how supervision is practiced at BurgerPartner with the Value Stream Manager, Metals and other VSMs to identify supervisor development needs and build capability across the supervisor communityReinforce a common language and cadence around SQDC, standard work, and structured problem-solving so that "how we supervise" is consistent regardless of value streamLean, Continuous Improvement & Standard WorkReinforce standard work, daily management, and structured problem-solving as the way work is done in MetalsDrive continuous improvement in the area of responsibility through teamwork, skills development, and disciplined use of SQDC dataIdentify and eliminate sources of variability impacting quality, schedule, and cost at the point of executionSupport the VSM in embedding Lean/CI transformation organically within the value streamSafety, Quality & Process DisciplineLead the team to ensure a safe working environment at all times; verify equipment is in working order and that safety standards are followed without exceptionPartner with support functions to enforce quality checkpoints, installation standards, and process discipline established in partnership with Quality Assurance and Quality ControlComplete and maintain required production paperwork, records, timesheets, and company policy documentationCulture & LeadershipMaintain a strong, visible presence on the shop floor to drive engagement, accountability, and problem-solvingReinforce company values of Trust, Belonging, Recognition, and Resilience through daily leadership behaviorsFoster an environment where associates proactively identify issues and take ownership of solutionsManage associate and management relationships within the guidelines of the Employee Guide and Company Policies; Escalates value stream-level or cross-functional decisions to the Value Stream Manager with clear context and recommended actions.CommunicationCommunicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with hourly associates, peers, the Value Stream Manager, cross-functional partners (Process Engineering, Scheduling/Planning, Quality, Supply Chain), and support functions. Able to translate floor-level observations into structured updates that enable timely value stream decisions.EducationAn associate degree or bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related fieldEquivalent combination of technical training and progressive manufacturing supervisory experience will be consideredLean / Continuous Improvement training or certifications (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) a plusExperienceProven supervisory experience in a production environment, preferably within a fabrication and assembly settingDemonstrated success implementing and driving SQDC performance and leading daily operational execution on the shop floorWorking knowledge of Lean / Continuous Improvement principles, with the ability to train, coach, and guide teams in applying them effectivelyProven track record in workforce development, leadership coaching, and building hourly team capabilityExperience partnering with Engineering, Planning, Quality, and Supply Chain functions to enable predictable executionStrong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead, coach, and mentor production teams and peer supervisorsProficiency in MS Office Suite for scheduling, planning, and production reporting; familiarity with production layouts or schematics (e.g., AutoCAD) is helpful but not requiredPhysical RequirementsSitting in a typical office position while also requiring regular presence in operational areas, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, and interacting with shop floor teams.General StatementThis description is intended to outline the general responsibilities and requirements of the role and is not exhaustive.
